    Abstract: The invention relates to a metal cutting tip having an upper face and a curved relief face, defining between them a substantially circular cutting edge. A chip former is located in the upper face and comprises a plurality of substantially radially directed recesses formed in the upper face. The recesses extend from the land at the cutting edge to a substantially centrally located deflector wall. The recesses are positioned to deflect cut metal into a curved rigidized shape and against the deflector wall to cause breaking thereof.
