  • Patent number: 4859135
Abstract: A refuse container assembly for storing refuse material at a refuse transfer station is provided with a receptacle, having a refuse storage chamber and a refuse material intake and discharge opening at the upper end of the chamber, mounted on a support frame for pivotal movement about a pivot axis extending transversely of the receptacle between a lower, upright position for receiving and storing thereat refuse material discharged into the opening by refuse collection vehicles and an elevated, at least partially inverted, position for discharging refuse material from the container through the opening into a refuse transportation vehicle, the assembly including a mechanism for pivoting the receptacle between the lower and elevated position, the mechanism including arms mounted on the support frame for pivotal movement about a pivot axis extending transversely of the receptacle, first extendable and retractable actuator having one end connected to the support frame and the other end connected to the arms remote

  • Patent number: 4306699
Abstract: The specification describes a device for containing refuse, including a container having a refuse receiving and discharge opening, a cover overlying the opening and pivotally connected to the container, and means for supporting the container above ground level for free swinging movement in a stable, normally upright position. The container is pivotable relative to the support means about a generally horizontal axis extending through the container upon application to the container about the axis for discharging the container.

  • Patent number: 4280780
Abstract: A self dumping refuse container assembly comprises a support frame adapted to be attached to a secure supporting surface and a container mounted on the frame for pivotal movement in a vertical plane between a lower, normally upright position for receiving refuse material and an elevated, at least partially inverted position for discharging refuse into a refuse collecting vehicle or the like. The container includes at least one refuse material intake opening in which a feed chute is located. The container also includes a refuse material discharge opening. A lid member is connected to the container for pivotal movement between a closed position overlying the discharge opening and an open position under the influence of gravity as the container is moved between the lower and elevated positions. A motor is provided for moving the container between its lower and elevated positions.

  • Patent number: 4256035
Abstract: The specification describes a refuse compacting device of the auger type including a housing having a hopper section at one end for receiving refuse material to be compacted and a compaction section at the other end for compacting refuse received from the hopper section into a densified plug, a rotatable auger screw extending through the hopper section and partly into the compaction section wherein the auger screw is resiliently mounted in the housing for limited angular movement in all directions from its normal axis of rotation so as to permit processing of materials which cannot otherwise be processed and to reduce the possibility of blockages.

  • Patent number: 4103790
Abstract: An improved actuating mechanism for the bucket assembly of a refuse vehicle includes a variable torque applying linkage connected to a hydraulic cylinder wherein the linkage is comprised of a crankarm fixed to a rotatable shaft, on which the bucket assembly is mounted, and a connecting link which has one end connected to the crankarm and its other end connected to the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder. The linkage is connected in such a manner that the link functions both as a two force and a three force member during a complete cycle of operation, and in so doing, is operable to change the moment arm of the force applied by the cylinder which, in turn, varies the torque applied to the shaft; the greatest torque being applied during a compression stroke of the bucket assembly.

  • Patent number: 4059307
Abstract: The specification describes a tailgate assembly for a tiltable body of a truck or the like, the assembly being movable between opened and closed positions in response to the angular displacement of the dump body and including first and second gate members releasably secured to a rear wall of the vehicle and resilient means biasing the gate members to the opened position in such a manner that upon release of the gate members the assembly will move to the opened position.
