Abstract: A solid animal feed composition generally includes a liquid nutrient component in an amount of 1% to 40% by weight and a fatty acid component in an amount of 60% to 99% by weight. The solid animal feed composition has a melting point of at least 70° F. The animal feed composition can be fed to lactating dairy cows to increase milk production, increase the fat content of milk produced by the cow, and/or increase the protein content of milk produced by the cow.

Generally, the animal feed nutritional supplement includes a core material at least partially coated with free fatty acid. Typically, the animal feed supplement composition melts when heated.

Abstract: This disclosure describes compositions that include a partially neutralized mixture of free fatty acid and a potassium salt of a fatty acid in which the potassium salt of the fatty acid is present in a molar ratio amount in the range of from about 10% to about 40% of the amount of the free fatty acid based upon the theoretical requirement to accomplish total neutralization of all fatty acid in the composition, animal feed compositions that include such compositions, and methods of preparing such compositions.
