  • Patent number: 8885613
Abstract: A method of operating a first access network and a second access network is provided, wherein said access networks serve mobile terminals in an access area and the method comprises: selecting one of said first access network and said second access network on the basis of a power consumption assessment; performing a steering operation for the mobile terminals in said access area, comprising sending steering information to the mobile terminals, the steering information indicating to the mobile terminals to preferably use the non-selected access network not being selected; and setting the selected access network to a power-save mode.

  • Patent number: 8050296
Abstract: A distributed radio base station includes a first radio equipment controller (REC) node, a second radio equipment controller (REC) node, and a radio equipment (RE) node for transceiving information over a radio interface with one or more radio terminals. The first REC node and the second REC node are physically separate from the RE node. The first REC node and/or the second REC node are/is connected to the RE node by a transmission link. Synchronization reference information is provided to one of the REC and RE nodes. The synchronization reference information in the one node is compared with timing information received from another of the REC nodes to generate a timing difference. The timing difference is used to adjust a timing unit at the another node in order to achieve timing synchronization between the RE node, the first REC node, and the second REC node.

  • Patent number: 7856029
Abstract: A radio base station (20) has an internal interface (26) connecting a radio equipment (RE) (24) and a radio equipment controller (REC) (22). The radio base station performs a pre-start-up procedure or method for the internal (26). The pre-start-up procedure is performed preparatory to and/or in conjunction with a start-up procedure for the internal interface. As on e of its aspects, the pre-start-up procedure involves storing one or more previously proven combinations of line bit rate and protocol as stored combination(s) for use on the internal interface. Prior to synchronization of the internal interface, the stored combination(s) are retrieved and included in a temporary available set of combinations of line bit rate and protocol. Thereafter the start-up procedure for the internal interface is initiated for the purpose of determining efficacy of the temporary available set.

  • Patent number: 7529215
Abstract: A distributed radio base station (20) comprises a radio equipment controller (REC) (22) situated at a main site (23) and a radio equipment (RE) (24) situated at a remote site (25). A remote unit (102, 104, 106, 108, 110, 124) configured to engage in direct communications with the radio equipment controller (REC) is also situated at the remote site (25). An internal interface (26) connects the radio equipment controller (REC) and the radio equipment (RE). Advantageously, the internal interface (26) also encapsulates the direct communications between the radio equipment controller (REC) (22) and the remote unit, thereby obviating a separate physical link between the radio equipment controller (REC) and the remote unit. A new physical link (130) transmits, between the radio equipment (RE) and the remote unit, the direct communications between the radio equipment controller (REC) and the remote unit which are encapsulated over the internal interface (26).

  • Patent number: 7460513
Abstract: A radio base station (20) has an internal interface (26) which connects a radio equipment (22) and a radio equipment controller (24). At least one and preferably both of the example radio equipment (22) and radio equipment controller (26) comprises a framer (50, 70) which can be controlled for transmitting samples of different protocols over the internal interface. The framer (50, 70) facilitates (1) time multiplexing of N number of frames of a first protocol over the internal interface; (2) inserting L number of samples of a second protocol into M number of the frames of the first protocol, and (3) inserting a padding sample into each frame of the first protocol which does not include a sample of the second protocol. The first protocol has a frame rate; the second protocol has a sample rate which is different from the frame rate of the first protocol, and N is greater than L and M.

  • Patent number: 7103124
Abstract: A method and apparatus for adjusting an oscillator in a network for correcting frequency drift is disclosed. Nodes in the network exchange time stamp messages with each other. The time stamp messages contain the time the stamp message is transmitted, node measurement value of an interval and an uncertainty value for the nodes estimation of the interval. By exchanging measurements of common intervals, nodes can determine how far their oscillators have drifted from the correct oscillating frequency.

  • Patent number: 6965658
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and or receiving analogue signals varying within a large signal range in for instance a radio communication system. A receiver (300) includes an un-attenuated signal receiver branch (303) with a first dynamic range and at least one attenuated signal receiver branch (304) with a second dynamic range. The attenuated signal receiver branch (304) is arranged in such a way that the second dynamic range is partly overlapping the first dynamic range and together with the first dynamic range cover the large signal range of the analogue signals. The attenuated signal receiver branch (304) includes an attenuator (306) which attenuate the amplitude of an input signal by a certain value to acquire the desired overlapping second dynamic range. The signal receiver branches are connected to a third block 308 which selects between sampled bursts from the respective signal receiver branch for further processing in the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20010039192
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for maintaining an accurate clock in a base transceiver station. Location measurement units which are used for determining the location of mobile stations is used to provide the current global positioning satellite (GPS) time to the base transceiver station. The base transceiver station can then adjust its own clock based upon the current GPS time. When the message in a GPS signal cannot be decoded the location measurement unit can determine the current GPS time by decoding the chip sequence of the GPS signal.

  • Patent number: 5870001
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for calibrating a device responsive to values of a reference signal. The reference signal may be subject to short-term disturbances. In one implementation, a cellular radio base station utilizes a Stratum-2 oscillator to which to phase-lock a base station VCO. Compensation is made for the aging of the Stratum-2 oscillator, thereby to provide a regulation signal causing the VCO to exhibit acceptable short-term and long-term frequency stability characteristics.
