  • Publication number: 20100234071
Abstract: A novel and useful vehicle integrated communications system that provides a solution to the poor performance experienced at the cell edge in a cellular communications system due to weak signal strength and high interference levels. A core cellular communications platform embedded (integrated) into the vehicle platform utilizes multiple antennas integrated into the body of the vehicle which are coupled to a multi-antenna transceiver; receives electrical power from the vehicle power source eliminating the limitations of hand held device batteries; processes multiple MIMO RF signals taking advantage of antenna diversity, beamforming and spatial multiplexing; executes advanced interference mitigation algorithms; implements adaptive modulation and coding algorithms; and utilizes dynamic channel modeling and estimation to significantly improve performance.

  • Publication number: 20090219849
Abstract: A novel and useful apparatus for and method of multicast and broadcast service (MBS) macro-diversity based information processing for use in MBS enabled wireless communication systems. MBS allocations and transmissions from base stations are not coordinated and independent of each other. The characteristics of the MBS signal, such as waveform, modulation, timing and frequency domain, used for transmissions in one or more MBS zones by a base station are uncoordinated and unsynchronized with respect to transmissions in other base stations or MBS zones. They all, however, contain the same information content and relate to the same CID (MCID and/or SA). The MS, using multiple detection techniques, uses time and frequency diversity reception techniques to combine MBS transmissions received from multiple base stations.

  • Patent number: 7567635
Abstract: A novel and useful apparatus for and method of single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) in a wireless communications system. A class of algorithms is disclosed for Downlink Advanced Receiver Performance (DARP) receivers based on a novel metric calculation used during equalization and optionally in other portions of the receiver as well, e.g., soft value generation. A DARP receiver for 8PSK EDGE modulation is presented wherein the interfering signals comprise GMSK modulated signals. The modified metric takes into account the rotation remaining in the noise component of the received signal after de-rotation of the 8PSK signal. Considering the interferer to be a GMSK signal, the I/Q elements of the noise are correlated and this fact is used to modify the decision rule for the received signal thus improving the performance of the equalizer. The model is further extended to take into account temporal error correlation.

  • Publication number: 20080233966
Abstract: A novel and useful method and system for resource allocation in OFDM communication systems. The mechanism reduces inter-cell interference by randomizing the inter-cell interference experienced in each cell. The mechanism effectively spreads the resource allocation in each cell in a random manner resulting in statistical-like inter-cell interference behavior. In many cases, use of the mechanism is sufficient to obviate the need for frequency planning between cells. A formula or hardware permutation machine is used to generate a random list of indices. The indices are then used to assign user data to the system resources. One or more parameters defining the random index generator at the transmitter are forwarded to the receiver to enable the local generation of an exact copy of the list of indices generated at the transmitter, thus enabling the DL and UL at the receiver while minimizing the required control channel signaling.

  • Publication number: 20080192622
Abstract: A novel and useful method and system for control channel signaling for use in multiple access wireless communication systems. The control message portion of the frame is divided into two portions: a first portion for transmitting a list of u-ID information and a second portion for transmitting all other remaining control information. All user identification information (u-ID information) is placed at the beginning of the control portion of a frame, typically in one or two symbols sent in the earliest part of the frame. The remaining control information (i.e. resource allocation and decoding information) is sent in the second portion of the control message. Users that do not have a resource assignment in a frame can skip the remainder of the frame, including the rest of the control message and data, and shutdown their receivers thus reducing power consumption. Only those UEs served in the current frame need to continue reception and decoding of the remainder of the control message and subsequent data.

  • Publication number: 20070127608
Abstract: A novel and useful apparatus for and method of Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) for use in a digital receiver. The invention comprises an interference mitigation module that treats the problem of GMSK SAIC in a blind manner. The interference mitigation mechanism is operative to compensate for the co-channel interference added in the communications channel which is subject to multipath propagation and fading, receiver filter and any pre-channel estimation filtering. The interference mitigation module takes advantage of the spatial diversity making up multiple branches of the received signal. The branches comprise the in-phase and quadrature elements of the received signal, the sampling phases if over sampling is applied (i.e. T/m sampling) and/or multiple antennas. The invention utilizes the spatial diversity of these multiple representations of the received signal and combines (i.e.
