  • Patent number: 7271508
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for deicing energized electrical transmission lines by means of an apparatus capable of producing an angular offset between its terminals. The method consists in: selecting segments (4, 6) of electrical transmission lines to de deiced, connecting the segments (4, 6) so as to form a loop, connecting the apparatus in series with the segments (4, 6) of the loop to be deiced. In the case of an apparatus with adjustable angular offset, it consists in switching on the apparatus and adjusting the angular offset to impose an increase of current flowing in at least one of the segments (4, 6) as the case may be. In the case of a apparatus with fixed angular offset, it consists in using a switch (54) or a circuit breaker (28) so as to connect the apparatus in the loop, the apparatus and the line segments being previously selected such that the angular offset imposes the required current increase to the deicing of at least one of the segments (4, 6) of the loop.

  • Publication number: 20040187414
Abstract: A building structure having a plurality of base members each having an inwardly facing opening, the base members defining a perimeter of the building structure, a concrete base which has portions thereof extending through the openings in the base members to thereby anchor the base members, a plurality of studs extending upwardly from the base member to a form wall sections, a plurality rafters extending between opposed wall sections, and a roof mounted on the rafters. The building structure is rigid and resistant to elements such as high winds.

  • Patent number: 5907239
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the capacity of a transformer for a polyphase AC network. The method and apparatus having a constant current transformer branch connected in parallel with at least one conventional transformer branches. The constant current transformer branch includes a phase-shifting transformer in series with reactive elements. Further, for power flow control between two synchronous polyphase AC network busses, two parallel branches are used in which one includes a phase-shifting transformer, while the other includes a reactive element. An additional phase-shifting transformer is added in series with the reactive element to enhance the power flow control flexibility.

  • Patent number: 5642005
Abstract: The method of interconnecting first and second synchronous polyphase AC networks is for regulating transfer of active power from one of the AC networks to the other. The method involves the steps of, for each phase line of the first AC network, connecting a first end of a first reactive element to the phase line of the first AC network; connecting a first end of a second reactive element to the phase line of the first AC network; applying to a second end of the first reactive element a first phase voltage derived from a second AC network; applying to a second end of the second reactive element a second phase voltage derived from the second AC network, the second phase voltage being phase shifted with respect to the first phase voltage. In a preferred method according to the invention, one of the reactive elements is inductive, and the other of the reactive elements is capacitive.

  • Patent number: 5619119
Abstract: A phase-shifting interconnection apparatus for interconnecting respective phase lines of first and second synchronous polyphase AC networks, includes for each pair of respective phase lines subjected to an interconnection a pair of circuit branches in parallel, having first and second common branch points provided with connecting means for connecting respectively the branch points to the respective phase lines, the circuit branches including respectively inductive and capacitive susceptances; and series transformer for phase-shifting a voltage applied to at least one of said susceptances, the series transformer including at least one primary winding having at least a portion connected in series with the at least one of the susceptances, and at least one secondary winding having at least a portion adapted to receive an excitation voltage derived from the AC networks, the excitation voltage having a phase angle with respect to a phase voltage provided by one of the respective phase lines, whereby, in operation,
