Abstract: A motor vehicle cabin has four seat positions and a heating and ventilating apparatus which includes means for producing hot and cold air streams, temperature control means, air distribution ducts having outlets at different points in the cabin at each seat position, and distribution means for adjustably distributing the mixture of the cold and hot air streams between the various air distribution ducts. These ducts include ducts which are open in at least two different points in the rear seat positions, each of which has its own temperature control means for adjusting the air temperature at that position, and means for adjusting the flow of air to that position.

Abstract: An air flow control register includes a frame carrying pivotable vanes, which are rotated on parallel axes by a common drive mechanism, so that the setting of the vanes is variable between a maximum flow position, in which the flaps have a minimum inclination with respect to the direction of air flow through the register, and a no-flow position in which this inclination is a maximum. The drive mechanism controls the pivoting of the vanes in such a way that they all rotate by the same amount, with alternate vanes rotating in opposite directions.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the flow of a stream of air consists of an independent module that comprises a support structure on which two rollers are mounted for rotation. A film, having open regions and closed regions, is wound between the two rollers, so that when the rollers are rotated to displace the film between the rollers, the relative positions of the open and closed regions of the film gives selective control of the flow of an air stream directed on to the film. The support structure includes a drive mechanism, for driving the rollers in alternate rotary motion and including a synchronizing shaft for synchronizing the rotary motion of the two rollers.

Abstract: An air conditioning installation for the cabin of a motor vehicle comprises an air treatment and distribution unit having an upstream chamber containing a fan and a downstream chamber containing distribution valves for distribution of treated air to the cabin. The two chambers are separated by an evaporator, through which air is driven by the fan into the downstream chamber. A collector for recovery of condensates is located below the evaporator and drains to outside the vehicle. The installation includes control means arranged to operate an automatic scavenging cycle immediately prior to the start of a period of air conditioning operation. This cycle consists in closing all the distribution valves and then running the fan for a predetermined scavenging period so as to drive the stale air out of the interior of the unit.

A film or blind, having open regions and closed regions for selectively controlling the flow of a stream of air, is wound on the rollers. The support frame comprises a guide frame which lies between the two rollers, for guiding the film and for contact with the film; and a press frame is arranged in facing relationship with the guide frame. The press frame carries springs for pressing the film against the guide frame.

The components of the apparatus, disposed on the side of the passenger space in relation to a transverse partition separating this passenger space from the front engine compartment, comprise a heating device for producing warm air and having a heating impeller for sending this warm air into the passenger space and a ventilation device for producing the cool or conditioned air and having a ventilation impeller for sending this cool or conditioned air into the passenger space. The apparatus is applicable to motor vehicles having a very inclined windshield, especially for "single box" type vehicles.

Abstract: An apparatus for heating and ventilating, and/or air conditioning, the cabin of a motor vehicle, and in particular an electric vehicle, comprises a series of elements arranged in a generally horizontal succession along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. These elements comprise: a blower for producing a stream of cold air; a first duct fed by the blower and divided into a cold air transmission branch and an air heating branch which contains a heat recuperator; a selection flap valve for controlling the distribution of the air flow between the two branches; a second duct which receives the outlet air of both of the two branches of the first duct, and which contains at least one electric radiant heater; and a distributor fed by the second duct and including a distribution valve for distributing the cold or heated air between appropriate ventilating ports in the cabin.

Abstract: An installation for heating, ventilating and air conditioning the cabin of a motor vehicle of the kind in which the steeply inclined windshield forms in effect an upward and rearward extension of the motor hood, with the fascia panel being elongated longitudinally into the cabin of the vehicle, comprises a heating apparatus and a ventilating and air conditioning apparatus, both arranged in the central fascia panel. The ventilating and air conditioning apparatus has at least one upper air inlet port and at least one lower air inlet port, arranged in the fascia panel and directed upwardly and downwardly respectively. These ports are connected to the blower of the ventilating and air conditioning apparatus so as to supply the latter with recirculated air drawn from an upper zone and a lower zone, respectively, of the cabin.

Abstract: The device, its components connected together in a rigid manner and as a unit, comprises a housing containing components for the treatment of air (fan, radiator, mixing and distribution shutters), median outlets (6) and lateral outlets (8) for discharge of the air into the passenger space, outlets (10) for discharge of the air onto the windshield, and rigid ducting arrangements (5, 7, 9) conducting the air from the treatment components to the discharge outlets. This device simplifies the mounting of the heating installation in the assembly line of construction of the vehicle, and can also support other elements, i.e., the instruments of the dashboard, controls, connectors, connection wires, and the like.
