  • Patent number: 11763144
Abstract: Described are methods of estimating a physical property associated with a region of a sports article. The method includes determining a plurality of structural features within the region, determining, for each structural feature, a feature value, mapping each feature value to a physical property, wherein the mapping is based on a machine learning algorithm from a limited plurality of samples, and wherein each sample associates a feature value with a value of the physical property, and using the mapping to estimate the physical property for the region.

  • Publication number: 20230189930
Abstract: Articles of footwear and methods of making articles of footwear including one or more continuous threads wound around anchor points. In some embodiments, thread lines of continuous thread(s) may extend tangential to an opening on a thread pattern or an upper. In some embodiments, thread lines of continuous thread(s) may define a portion of an upper and extend through a sole for an article of footwear. In some embodiments, thread patterns defined by the continuous thread(s) may be bonded to each other around a sheet to form an upper material for an upper.

  • Patent number: 11659889
Abstract: A midsole for an article of footwear including a three dimensional mesh including interconnected unit cells and methods of making the same. The interconnected unit cells each include a plurality of struts defining a three dimensional shape. The interconnected unit cells are connected at nodes having a valence number defined by the number of struts connected at that node. The valence number of the nodes may vary to provide customized characteristics to zones or portions of the midsole. The plurality of interconnected unit cells may be organized in a warped cubic lattice structure. The warped cubic lattice structure and the size/shape of interconnected unit cells may vary to provide customized characteristics to zones or portions of the midsole. The three dimensional mesh may be customized based on a biometric data profile for an individual, or group of individuals. The midsole may be manufactured using an additive manufacturing process.

  • Publication number: 20220256972
Abstract: Articles of footwear including a thermo-molded upper having a skin composed of one or more low melting point thermoplastic polymers. The skin may include at least one of: a base layer composed of a low melting point thermoplastic polymer and a grid layer including a yarn composed of a low melting point thermoplastic polymer. The uppers may be formed by placing a skin and an inflatable bladder into a mold cavity and heating the mold to a predetermined temperature. The inflatable bladder may be inflated such that the skin is pressed against an interior surface of the heated mold cavity to cause the skin to take on the shape of the internal surface of the mold cavity, thereby forming an upper for an article of footwear.

  • Patent number: 11312066
Abstract: Provided is a method of making a three-dimensional object, which method may include the steps of: (a) producing an intermediate object (21) from a dual cure polymerizable liquid by additive manufacturing, the intermediate object having the shape of the three-dimensional object in warped or distorted form; (b) optionally washing the intermediate object; then (c) contacting the intermediate to a form (22), which form has a shape corresponding to the three-dimensional object, and with the intermediate conformed to the shape of the form; then (d) further curing the intermediate object in contact with the form to produce the three-dimensional object (24) under conditions in which the three-dimensional object retains a shape conformed to the form after separating therefrom; and then (e) separating the three-dimensional object from the form.

  • Publication number: 20200167648
Abstract: Described are methods of estimating a physical property associated with a region of a sports article. The method includes determining a plurality of structural features within the region, determining, for each structural feature, a feature value, mapping each feature value to a physical property, wherein the mapping is based on a machine learning algorithm from a limited plurality of samples, and wherein each sample associates a feature value with a value of the physical property, and using the mapping to estimate the physical property for the region.

  • Publication number: 20200164582
Abstract: Described are methods of manufacturing at least part of a sports article. The method includes determining a set of physical parameters of the sports article, wherein the set including a first group and a second group. The method further includes determining a set of constraints for the first group of physical parameters, wherein the set of constraints is intended to achieve at least one objective function. Moreover, method further includes determining an optimum for the at least one objective function, which is determined by optimizing the second group of physical parameters and manufacturing the part of the sports article according to the set of constraints and the second group of optimal physical parameters.

  • Publication number: 20200146397
Abstract: An article of sports apparel such as an outsole for a shoe may be formed based on a computational traction profile. The computational traction profile is built based on received sensor data, such as that obtained by a frustrated total internal reflection (“FTIR”) system having a surface on which an individual may perform a movement. The sensor data is obtained while a different article of sports apparel of the same type is worn by the person during an activity. The sensor data may be used to alter a visual outsole pattern, traction features such as projections or recesses, for example. One or more of the position, height, cross-sectional shape, and the like of the respective projections and recesses may be varied along the surface of the outsole in response to the computational traction profile.
