    Abstract: A tilt-and-telescope steering apparatus includes a plate bracket, an outer tube, a distance bracket, an outer block, and a fastening arrangement. The plate bracket surrounds an outer surface of an outer tube and has tilt adjustment holes formed on both sides of the plate bracket. The outer tube surrounds an inner tube and has telescopic adjustment hole formed in at least one side thereof. The distance bracket surrounds the outer surface of the outer tube and has fastening holes formed through both sides of the distance bracket. The outer block is positioned between the plate bracket and the distance bracket, and fastens the distance bracket according to the operation of a control lever. A fastener couples the plate bracket, the outer block, and the distance bracket to each other.

    Abstract: A telescopic device includes an inner tube; an outer tube having an opening formed on an end so that the opening partially extends in a longitudinal direction; upper mounting brackets; a lever; and a protruding distance member fixed to an outer peripheral surface of the outer tube and provided with a protrusion inserted into the opening and fasteners to be mounted on the upper mounting brackets. The protrusion is adapted to compress the inner tube when the lever is fastened so that the inner and outer tubes are fixed to each other. By replacing the conventional telescopic bush with the distance member, the telescopic force is reduced when the lever is unfastened. In addition, when the lever is fastened, the inner peripheral surface and the protruding surface of the distance member strongly compress both the outer and inner tubes. This increases the rigidity of the steering device during driving.

In the apparatus, there is provided the rotatable locking member instead of a gear engagement structure, so as to maintain the locked state of the tilting and telescoping operations, reducing the number of parts required, and therefore the manufacturing period and costs of manufacturing, assembling and installing the steering apparatus.
