  • Patent number: 7443932
Abstract: A method and an apparatus which adjusts a signal read from an optical disc in order to obtain stable binary data. The signal adjustment method comprises (a) detecting a period of an input signal of a predetermined code; (b) determining whether the detected period is smaller than a predetermined value; and (c) if the detected period is determined to be smaller than the predetermined value, adjusting the input signal so that its period equals the predetermined value, and outputting the input signal. The signal adjustment method and apparatus of the present invention reduce errors and improve system performance, when a signal input to the binary processor does not meet its code feature.

  • Patent number: 7433285
Abstract: A BCA (Burst Cutting Area) code including a unique disk code indicating the type of a disk is written in a BCA code area of the disk. If the disk is mounted into the optical disk player, the optical disk player reads data written in the BCA code area, extracts the disk code contained in the read data, and confirms the type of the disk corresponding to the extracted disk code by retrieving a disk code table in which disk codes corresponding to the types of disks are mapped.

  • Patent number: 7430160
Abstract: An optical recording medium has a user data area and a lead-out area, wherein the user data area and the lead-out area each has grooves and lands formed thereon. Wobbles are formed on at least one lateral surface of grooves of the user data area and the lead-out area, and configured such that wobble characteristics are made different between the user data area and the lead-out area. Different types of wobbles are formed on the grooves of either the user data area or the lead-out area, thereby preventing an optical pickup that performs recording/reproduction from deviating from the user data area. Also, in a multi-layer optical recording medium, a whole area of a recording layer is configured to have a same condition, thereby preventing deterioration in reproduction and/or recording due to a difference in light power transmittance of another recording layer.

  • Patent number: 7401285
Abstract: An error correction method for optical discs, and more particularly, an error correction method appropriate to high density discs is provided. The error correction method adds inner parity and outer parity to an error correction block of size n byte×m×o. The method comprises the steps of obtaining a plurality of inner parity blocks (PI blocks) by segmenting the error correction block in the inner parity (PI) direction into x segments; generating e-byte PI for each of the plurality of PI blocks generated by segmenting, and adding the e-bytes to the PI blocks PIs to the PI direction; and generating f-byte outer parity (PO) in the PO direction of the error correction block, and adding the POs to the PO direction. The error correction method enhances error correction capability while maintaining a redundancy of parity signal on a level similar to conventional DVDs.

  • Patent number: 7394735
Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a computer readable recording medium thereof to update filter tap coefficients of an equalizer include a defect signal detection unit and a coefficient updating unit. The defect signal detection unit receives a sampled input signal reflected from an optical disc and/or a track jump signal, detects whether the input signal and/or the track jump signal are defective, and outputs an update stop signal indicative thereof. The coefficient updating unit stops the updating of the filter tap coefficients in response to the update stop signal and outputs current filter tap coefficients.

  • Publication number: 20080150770
Abstract: A method of generating and allocating codewords includes allocating one of two selectable codewords b1 and b2 as codeword “b” when a preceding codeword “a” and a following codeword “b” form a code stream X, in which the codewords b1 and b2 have opposite INV values which are parameters indicating whether the number of ‘1s’ contained in a codeword is an odd number or an even number. When the code stream of the preceding codeword “a” and the following codeword b1 is X1, and when the code stream of the preceding codeword “a” and the following codeword b2 is X2, the codewords are allocated such that the INV values of X1 and X2 are maintained to be opposite when the preceding codeword “a” or the following codeword b1 (b2) (b1 or b2) should be replaced by another codeword in compliance with a predetermined boundary condition given between codewords. The codewords are allocated so that a DC suppression capability of the code stream can be maintained.
