  • Patent number: 7480215
Abstract: A method and miniaturizable device is described to read/write information to an optical storage medium (11). A device comprises one or more light sources (12) bounded up with an access unit (10) which is arranged to be controllable to a position, in which light beams (21, 22) are transmitted transversal towards an optical storage medium, and reflected light beams (33) are analysed by a detector element (18, 26) which further informs the access unit whether to move or stand still to keep light beams in focus and on track. A device according to the invention is possible to implement in a small size and low weight due to reduced component count and thin access unit geometries. A communication device (80) according to the invention may be implemented to fulfil a crucial need for ultraminiature range of communication devices.

  • Patent number: 7428466
Abstract: Altimeters correct themselves by analyzing pressure data to identify underlying climatic changes and modify sensed pressures accordingly to provide corrected altitude values. The detected underlying climatic changes are used to provide a barometer function independent of altitude changes. Air pressure measured at a plurality of times is stored to provide historical pressure data. A reference pressure is modified in dependence on historical data to produce a modified reference pressure. An altitude value is obtained from the current air pressure value and the modified reference pressure and stored.

  • Publication number: 20080205354
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of initiating a wireless transfer of data between two electronic devices. In order to make the initiation particularly user friendly, it is proposed that a concept called “hugging” is employed. A hugging state between two electronic devices is assumed to be given if a first electronic device and a second electronic device are determined to undergo a specific motion pattern relative to each other while being at least in close vicinity to each other. Only in case such a hugging state is detected at a first device, a data transfer channel is opened for transferring data between the first device and some other device, e.g. the second device. The invention relates equally to a corresponding device and to a software program product with a corresponding software code.

  • Patent number: 7302274
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided a method and device for the viewing, editing and dissemination of an editable object in real-time mobile collaboration sessions. The invention comprises a set of mobile terminals and a protocol which enables users to simultaneously edit the same editable object. An advantageous embodiment of this invention allows for synchronization to occur in real time. Further, synchronization and version control problems are avoided as the invention considers each user's edited version to be a genuine version of the data. The end result of the editing process may be several different versions, and not just one single authoritative version.

  • Patent number: 7302529
Abstract: A method, system, device and software product for comparing the contents of memory components in electronic devices. A data transmission connection is established between the electronic devices, and device identifiers and checksum values are determined in the electronic devices. An initialization message is transmitted from a first electronic device to a second electronic device, the message comprising a device identifier and a checksum value. The device identifiers of the first and a second electronic device and the check-sum values are compared with each other, as a result of which the contents of the memory components are caused to correspond to each other, or the contents of the memory components are noted to correspond to each other.

  • Patent number: 7271393
Abstract: An apparatus for quantifying irradiance has a first sensor having an output for providing a reference signal of irradiance within a first band, such as the visible light band. A filter and a second sensor are in optical series so that irradiance sensed at the second sensor is filtered. The second sensor outputs a filtered signal of irradiance within the first band. The filter particularly filters irradiance in the first band as a function of irradiance in the second band, such as the UV light band. In an exemplary embodiment, the filter is made from a material that darkens with increasing UV irradiance. A processor has inputs coupled to the outputs of the first and second sensors for determining irradiance in the second band from the reference signal and the filtered signal. Mathematical formulations for the processor are provided, as are methods and a computer program embodied on a medium. A single sensor embodiment is also described.
