Patent number: 9365376Abstract: Coreless tissue rolls can be produced without having to use an adhesive to form a hollow center. Instead, moisture can be used to promote light hydrogen bonding between the layers of the tissue web that line the hollow center. The hydrogen bonding provides sufficient structure to maintain the shape of the hollow center without rendering the tissue web surrounding the passageway unusable. Passageways can also be formed in accordance with the present disclosure that are substantially circular so that the rolls will easily spin on a spindle. In an alternative embodiment, moisture is not used in constructing the wound tissue roll.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2013Date of Patent: June 14, 2016Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Steven James Wojcik, Mark R. Verburgt, Joel Banda, Jr., Kenneth Allen Pigsley, Christine Ann Armstrong, Dennis Marvin Jobs, Thomas Gerard Shannon, James Leo Baggot

Patent number: 9126792Abstract: Coreless rolls of tissue, such as rolls of bath tissue or paper towels, are produced by winding tissue logs on a mandrel having retractable pins. During winding, the pins extend and penetrate the first several windings of the log as it is initially wound, which prevents slippage. After the winding is complete, the pins retract to allow the tissue log to slide off of the mandrel for subsequent slitting into individual product rolls and packaging. The penetration of the pins into the first several windings of the log tends to mechanically entangle and structurally unify those windings to create a “soft core”. At the same time, the properties of the tissue sheets within the soft core are the same as the other sheets within the roll and are therefore usable by the consumer.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2009Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Frank Stephen Hada, James Leo Baggot, Robert Eugene Krautkramer, Steven James Wojcik

Patent number: 8864061Abstract: A winder for winding a web to produce a rolled product is provided. The winder includes a web transport apparatus that is used for conveying the web. Also included in one exemplary embodiment is a plurality of independent winding modules. The winding modules are independently positioned to independently engage the web as the web is conveyed by the web transport apparatus. The winding modules may be configured to wind the web to form a rolled product by center winding, surface winding, and combinations of center and surface winding. The winding modules are structurally and operationally independent of one another where if one module is disabled, another may still operate to produce the rolled product without shutting down the winder.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2012Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventors: Steven James Wojcik, Dennis Marvin Jobs, Kenneth Allen Pigsley, James Leo Baggot

Patent number: 7451350Abstract: The present invention provides for a test system having a test executive software system for performing tests on units under test. The test executive software system includes a test kernel component that provides control through a generic interface to the test executive software. Test components, instrument components, support objects and a test system interface component are communicatively coupled to the test kernel component. The instrument components can be written as a dynamically linked library (DLL) file so that the instrument component can be broken into basic functional modules associated with the particular instrument type. Each instrument component supports operation in both live mode and virtual mode, so that testing can be performed in both normal mode and simulation mode. Virtual mode allows instruments to be inserted and removed without impacting test applications that do not utilize them, thereby reducing tester downtime.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2004Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey G. Cherny, David A. Gehring, Robert L. Lupica, James A. Wojcik

Patent number: 6647526Abstract: A system and method is provided for testing industrial control modules. Input and output stimulus signals, communication lines, measurement device lines and relay contacts are provided at a tester interface panel. This allows for a test developer to configure the relay contacts in any way that the developer desires to provide appropriate connections of stimulus, communications and measurements for a given industrial control module. The switching of the relays between a normally closed position and a normally open position can be controlled by output modules coupled to a computer. The relays can be insertable and releasable in a socket for easy fault isolation and replacement. Furthermore, the same relays or similar relays can be employed for both low current measurements and high power stimulus.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2000Date of Patent: November 11, 2003Assignee: Rockwell Automation Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Michael Holder, James Wojcik
