  • Publication number: 20230073822
Abstract: A method for producing a sector plate for a rotary heat exchanger is disclosed. The method includes defining overall dimensions of a sector plate. A number of a plurality of tapered ribs to be included on the top surface is determined based on a surface area of the sector plate and/or a sealing to be provided by the sector plate. Additionally, a root height of the plurality of tapered ribs is determined based on at least a plate thickness of the sector plate and the number of the plurality of tapered ribs. With the root height, the plurality of tapered ribs cause the sector plate to deform parabolically in response to an actuation. The plurality of tapered ribs also return the sector plate to a rest position and the sector plate supports its weight in a cantilevered fashion when in the actuated position and the rest position.

  • Publication number: 20120243420
Abstract: An approach is provided in which a request addressed to a remote target node is transmitted through a network path with the network path includeing multiple relay nodes. The transmitting system recognizes that the transmission of the first request failed. Relay nodes in the serial path are analyzed using historical failure data. A first relay node is identified as a likely failed relay node based on the analysis. The first relay node is tested by transmitting a test request to the likely failed relay node. If the transmission of the test request fails, the identified likely failed node is verified by testing the previous node in the path. If verification is successful, the first node is selected as the failing node. However, if verification is unsuccessful, then a second node is chosen as the likely failed node and testing resumes.

  • Publication number: 20080032065
Abstract: A method of manufacturing valves and other engine valves with a corrosion and heat resistant coating comprises applying a protective coating in the form of a slurry to the engine part and curing the protective coating using infrared radiation. The protective coating may include one or more of metal and/or ceramic materials, one or more of organic and/or inorganic binders, and a solvent (e.g., water or volatile organic solvent). The method may include masking a portion of the engine valve to limit the area that is coated by the protective coating. The emissivity of the protective coating is generally greater than about 0.7 in order to more effectively absorb infrared radiation during the curing process. The protective coating is typically cured by heating to a temperature of about 100° C. to about 650° C. using infrared radiation. The protective coating helps prolong the life of the valve and resists wear and breakage in locations prone to breakage.

  • Publication number: 20070240668
Abstract: An inlet valve is partially coated with a protective coating to resist corrosion and gas impingement when used in an internal combustion engine. The inlet valve has a hard cladding that is shaped to function as a valve seat. The hard cladding forms an interface with the valve head body, which is typically made of a softer metallic material than the hard cladding. The protective coating is bonded to the inlet valve and covers the cladding-body interface. The protective coating is resistant to corrosion, wear from gas impingement, and can withstand the high temperatures reached in internal combustion engines. Internal engines incorporating the valves are more durable and less susceptible to catastrophic valve failure. A method for making the inlet valves generally includes masking a portion of the valve stem and the valve seat, applying a protective coating to cladding-body interface, and curing the protective coating or otherwise bonding the protective coating to the inlet valve.
