  • Patent number: 4513944
Abstract: A valve and particularly a safety valve for use in controlling flow from a well in which an external motor is utilized to shift the actuator of a valve such as a ball valve. The reciprocating rod of the motor is protected by resilient means between the crosshead attached to the motor and the reciprocating actuator. The actuator is latched when the valve is in the open position so that it cannot be moved to closed position except by movement of the reciprocating motor. The valve and seat assembly are designed to be replaced as a unit and can be fabricated as a subassembly with the valve in exact open alignment when the reciprocating actuator is in full valve open position as determined by a stop against which the valve member bottoms.

  • Patent number: 4431051
Abstract: A surface controlled subsurface safety valve for deep well service. Communication of control fluid to the subsurface safety valve is controlled by a pilot valve at a subsurface location in close proximity to the safety valve. Responsiveness of the subsurface safety valve to decrease in control fluid pressure is thereby increased and the safety valve's closure speed is also increased. The pilot valve controllably communicates pressurized control fluid to open the safety valve and allows control fluid to be displaced into the flow path through the safety valve during valve closure.

  • Patent number: 4306628
Abstract: A mechanical safety switch for closing electrical contacts in a well tool. The mechanical switch has several safety requirements which must be satisfied before the electrical contacts will close including upward pull on a wireline and a preselected value of fluid pressure exterior to the switch. The safety switch can be incorporated into a well perforating gun to provide safe, reliable operation of an electrically powered perforating gun by a conventional wireline. Preferably, the electrical circuits of the well perforating gun should include a motion sensor and a timer for increased safety.

  • Patent number: 4284152
Abstract: A core breaker carrier for inserting and removing a core breaker from a drill bit. The carrier of the present invention eliminates the need for using wireline tools to install a core breaker within a drill bit. The core breaker carrier with core breaker attached can be inserted into the bore of the drill pipe at the well surface and pumped into the drill bit. Fluid pressure is used to anchor the carrier at a preselected location within the drill bit.
