Abstract: Tetraalkyl ammonium halides are applied to a broad range of undesirable terrestrial plants for fast and effective herbicidal activity. It is desirable to use a herbicidally effective amount of the chemical formula R1R2N(+)R3R4 X(?), wherein, R1 and R2 are each independently C1 to C4 alkyl; R3 and R4 are each independently C8 to C16 alkyl; X is chloride or bromide. This herbicide may be used alone, or in combination with at least one additional herbicide.

Abstract: Disclosed are novel methods for controlling higher terrestrial plants using at least one trialkylbenzyl ammonium halide. In one example, the trialkylbenzyl ammonium halide includes the chemical formula below C6H5—CH2—N(+)R1R2R3X(?) wherein, R1 and R2 are each independently C1 to C4 alkyl; R3 is C8 to C18 alkyl or alkenyl; X is chloride or bromide. The methods of the present disclosure are useful for controlling both mono- and dicotyledonous plants in a broad range of applications.

Abstract: Cyclopropylmethyl-N-n-propylamine is prepared by (a) cyclizing 1,4-butanediol by a cobalt-containing catalyst to 2,3-dihydrofuran at a temperature in the range of about 210.degree.-235.degree. C.; (b) thermally isomerizing the 2,3-dihydrofuran to cyclopropanecarboxaldehyde in an open-reactor columm; and (c) reductively alkylating the cyclopropanecarboxaldehyde with n-propylamine and hydrogen in the presence of a platinum catalyst.

Abstract: A process for preparing 2,6-dialkylcyclohexylamine, e.g., 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine, from a corresponding dialkylphenol, e.g., 2,6-dimethylphenol, by passing the phenol over a bed of a hydrogen-transfer catalyst in the presence of ammonia at elevated temperatures and pressures.

Abstract: A method is provided for separating tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine by-product from chloro-bis(alkylamino)-s-triazines by extracting tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine from an organic solution containing a mixture of tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine and chlorobis(alkylamino)-s-triazine with an aqueous acid solution in the pH-range of 5.4-0.5 and according to a further embodiment of the present invention, treating an alkaline aqueous effluent containing a mixture of chloro-bis(alkylamino)-s-triazine and tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine with an agent capable of reducing the pH value below 5.4 and extracting the chloro-bis(alkylamino)-s-triazine with a water immiscible solvent, the tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine remaining in the aqueous phase.

Abstract: Production of 2-alkyl- or cycloalkyl-4-methyl-6-hydroxypyrimidines by first neutralizing an alkyl imidate ester hydrochloride with a base in the presence of a water-immiscible solvent for the alkyl imidate ester to be freed thereby; condensing the alkyl imidate ester with diketene to form an oxazinone intermediate, which is then reacted in organic solution with gaseous ammonia and recovering the desired substituted 6-hydroxypyrimidine.

Abstract: A thermally stable water soluble glyoxime composition comprising a blend of glyoxime and an ethylene glycol-type material and a process for the preparation thereof comprising reacting glyoxal and a hydroxylamine acid salt in the presence of said ethylene glycol-type material.
