  • Patent number: 5507048
Abstract: The present invention provides a lightweight waterbed structure composed of a foam base with a raised border around the perimeter containing a plurality of generally flat multiple bladders arranged horizontally in a configuration to cover the foam base and a convoluted foam pad which covers the plurality of multiple bladders. Applicant's invention provides an extremely lightweight waterbed containing a small amount of water or liquid, which can be used safely in any type of house or apartment, yet unexpectedly provides the support, feel and comfort of a heavier, conventional waterbed. By utilizing a plurality of rectangular, generally flat profile, thin water bladders and covering them with a convoluted foam pad positioned with the fingers of the convoluted foam away from the water bladders, the motion of the water in the bladders is accentuated, thus providing the user the feeling and sensation of a flotation mattress containing greater volumes of water.

  • Patent number: 4173049
Abstract: A safety liner for retaining liquids in a confined volume wherein liquid impervious side and bottom walls are positionable into the liquid retaining position by reason of flotation means or buoyant portions maintaining the side walls in the liquid confining relationship to prevent liquid spills and runoffs. An exemplary use of the safety liner is as a safety flotation liner for use in waterbed structures wherein inadvertent rupture of the water mattress will prevent water spills by reason of use of the flotation liner, which will permit emptying of the escaped water in a safe and efficacious manner without damage to the surroundings.

  • Patent number: 4100635
Abstract: Improved water bed construction where, in one embodiment, two spaced inflatable members are positioned along the two lateral edges within a water bed frame with a separate water filled mattress being positional thereover with the conventional safety or water liner, wherein the inflatable members are filled with liquid or gas so as to have less resiliency than the water filled mattress portion, whereby ease of entry and exit onto the water mattress is facilitated. In another embodiment a liquid or gas supply means with appropriate controls is utilized so as to selectively and preferentially fill the lateral inflatable members to desired pressure, or alternately, to deflate same to selectively alter the resiliency thereof to facilitate supporting conditions of the water mattress.
