  • Patent number: 6837494
Abstract: A table and method of playing a combined poker and baccarat-type card game. The method of playing a combined poker and baccarat-type card game comprises dealing 3 cards of both a banker hand and a player hand, with the winning baccarat hand having a higher hand value based on the traditional baccarat scoring system, but without all of the complex baccarat rules for determining if and when a third card is to be dealt. Included is the option of any player to select that the player hand of three cards or the banker hand of three cards or both the player hand and the banker hand will provide a bonus poker hand of one pair, a three-card flush, a three-card straight, three of a kind, a three-card straight flush and a three-card royal flush comprising an Ace and a King and a Queen of any one suit.

  • Publication number: 20040247242
Abstract: An optical coupler having two refractive lenses for coupling an optoelectronic element and an optical medium to each other. One lens may be in contact with the optical medium. The refractive index of the one lens may be similar to the index of the optical medium. The optoelectronic element may be a light source or a detector. The light source may be a laser. The lenses may be glass ball lenses. One of the ball lenses may be a half ball lens. If the optical medium is an optical fiber, one of the lenses may a fiber stop for the fiber when inserted in a receptacle of the coupler.

  • Publication number: 20040247250
Abstract: A pluggable connectorized package having an optical medium component and an optoelectronic element component in a sleeve. Alignment between these components may be maintained by the sleeve. The sleeve may have a slit, be slightly undersized relative to the components, and hold the components with a form of a grip. Or the sleeve may not have a slit and be machined along with the components to fit in the sleeve with close tolerances. The optical medium such as an optical fiber may be in a ferrule to be placed in the sleeve. The optoelectronic element may be in a ferrule-like device that may be referred to as a thimble. The thimble forms an environmentally protective housing for the original equipment chip with design options for full hermeticity as well as providing means of electrical interface. Additionally, this element may be configured to accommodate auxiliary chip-to-fiber coupling optics as required.

  • Publication number: 20040141694
Abstract: A zero-clearance receptacle for single mode optical fiber couplers. The zero-clearance receptacle includes an internally fluted V-groove formed by internally extending legs. The zero-clearance receptacle uses the fundamental action of the V-groove to accurately locate an optical fiber ferrule inserted into the zero-clearance receptacle in the radial direction. The zero-clearance receptacle further includes a slot that receives a biasing element, such as a spring, that biases the optical ferrule against the V-groove legs. This enables accurate positioning of an optical fiber in the optical ferrule relation to an optical element such as a VCSEL or a photoreceptor. The zero-clearance receptacle beneficially fits into an optical coupler, which may have a lens.

  • Publication number: 20030151200
Abstract: A table and method of playing a baccarat-type card game that provides players with the opportunity to play a simpler version of baccarat that is both easier to understand and capable of being played by more players. One method of playing a baccarat-type card game comprises dealing 2 cards to both a banker hand and a player hand while the other method comprises dealing 1 card to both a banker hand and player hand, with the winning hand having a hand value closest to nine based on the traditional baccarat scoring system, but without all of the complex baccarat rules for determining if and when a third card is to be dealt. A simplified method is disclosed for handling “ties” involving dealing only one additional card and using an assigned numerical value of the one additional card to break the “tie” in favor of either the player or the banker.

  • Patent number: 6241994
Abstract: The invention provides a solid TCMTB formulation for controlling the growth of at least one microorganism. The use of a solid TCMTB formulation, as compared to a liquid, minimizes user contact and is more readily packaged. A solid TCMTB formulation of the invention contains TCMTB adsorbed onto a water-soluble, salt carrier matrix, with the TCMTB present in an amount effective to control the growth of at least one microorganism, preferably in an aqueous system. Other microbicides and additives may also be incorporated into a solid TCMTB formulation of the invention. In a preferred embodiment, the formulation contains both TCMTB and one or more other microbicides (e.g., methylene bisthiocyanate (MTC)) and a water-soluble, salt carrier matrix. The TCMTB is adsorbed onto the water-soluble salt carrier matrix. The TCMTB and other microbicide are present in a combined antimicrobial amount effective for the control of at least one microorganism.

  • Patent number: 5837894
Abstract: A three-axis attitude orientation system for a spacecraft is described. The single sensor provides roll and pitch information by locating the centroid of the earth and using this as a reference point. The system determines yaw by tracking the position of stars which appear in the field of view around the earth. Three-axis attitude is determined through ultraviolet imaging of the earth's limb and adjacent stars. A diffractive optics sensor and intensified CCD array are utilized for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 5761455
Abstract: A parallel processing system is provided with a plurality of processors and a plurality of memories, and bus units with arbitration coupling the processors and memories. A bus unit provides a pathway between one processor and the bus unit's respective memory. Each bus unit arbitrates multiple simultaneous access requests for its respective memory and communicates its decisions to other bus units so that a memory access requiring multiple memories will only occur if all those memories are available. The coupling of processors to memories can change, dynamically, each bus cycle without the need for setup before the bus cycle either by pipelining or having unused bus cycles. In a specific embodiment, the memory access information is provided on high order address lines, where the processor logically accesses different memory address spaces to make different accesses, thereby sharing memory with other processors.

  • Patent number: 5642455
Abstract: An optical fiber is releasably held in coil or skein form by a magnetized in film coating on the fiber. Adjacent convolutions are held together by a magnetic field to prevent unintended unravelling of the coil, but the fiber can be rapidly played out at high speed without rupture and with a constant release tension force. The magnetic field has a radial and axial component relative to the coil cylinder. A magnetizing apparatus is disclosed for magnetizing the film. A sensor feedback loop can dynamically adjust the reel-out drag force to dampen vibration modes during reel out which can cause tangle.

  • Patent number: 5270854
Abstract: A solid state form of a dye-solution absorption filter is disclosed. Physical vapor depositable (i.e., evaporable) dyes are codeposited with a polyester matrix in a vacuum system to randomly disperse dye molecules in a solid dilutant. The dyes are selected to absorb at the wavelengths of interest. Dilution in a transparent matrix affords narrow band absorption and good out of band transmittance. Multilayer configurations allow absorption of a plurality of wavelengths. The filter coating conforms to curved and sharply contoured surfaces and layers only 10 microns thick afford very high absorptance.
