  • Patent number: 8425202
Abstract: A universal controller (16) for an electric motorized pump (18) having a mechanical switch (19) for turning on and off electrical power to the pump, and method of operation of same. The controller controls output pressure of the pump based on controlling the speed of the pump (for example by applying voltage over a greater portion of a duty cycle), so as to provide an optimal operating pressure derived from an automatically determined value for the pressure at which the mechanical switch opens and disrupts electrical power to the pump. It is manufactured as a standalone assembly, not attached to a pump. It can be operated so as to automatically seek and determine a switch-opening pressure for the switch (19), at which the pump pressure switch opens and so interrupts electrical power to the motor, and to then choose an operating pressure below the switch-opening pressure.

  • Patent number: 6978659
Abstract: A leak sensor apparatus (10) and flow control equipment (16) for sensing a leak from a machine using a supply of water (or other fluid) or from connecting hoses supplying the water, and for turning off the supply when a leak is detected, with the leak sensor (10) itself including in particular two conductors (10a–b) held in spaced apart relation in a fluid-permeable insulating material (10c), and the flow control equipment (16) for providing a voltage difference between the two conductors (10a–b) and for sensing the presence of a fluid based on the fluid providing an electrical path between the two conductors (10a–b) and so allowing current to flow between the two conductors (10a–b) under the urging of the voltage difference provided by the flow control equipment (16). In some embodiments, the two conductors (10a–b) are configured so as to wrap about one or more of the connecting hoses.

  • Patent number: 5408721
Abstract: An automatic dustpan apparatus for central vacuum cleaning systems has a hollow body member that is configured for built-in mounting under cabinetry or in walls adjacent a floor surface, and connection to a conventional central vacuum cleaning system whereby debris on a floor surface may simply be swept to the vicinity of the automatic dustpan and hence into the central vacuum cleaning system where it is discarded. A valve within the dustpan body automatically closes when the dustpan is not in use to permit the other receptacles in the central vacuum cleaning system to function and provision is made to assure against the energizing of the central vacuum cleaning motor when the automatic dustpan is to be used until after the valve of the dustpan has been opened, in order to prevent harmful overloading and other undue damaging strains on the motor during its initial startup and operation.
