    Abstract: Methods for inhibiting scale formation in evaporators of the type used to produce aqueous distillate from produced waters such as those waters that are commonly formed in steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) oil recovery methods are provided. In accordance with the invention, a chelant selected from EDTA, DTPA, NTA, and HEEDTA is added to the recirculating evaporator system brine or to the feedwater to such systems.
