Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for use in a device, such as a handheld printer or scanner, having functionality that requires information of its position relative to an origin and initial orientation. The module includes two sensors to generate movement data indicative of movement direction and orientation changes of the device. The location and orientation of the device relative to the origin and initial orientation is derived based on the movement data. A handheld printer or scanner implementing the device may thus be moved in different directions across a media to print or scan images, text, or other objects.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for selecting bits from a defined print image in memory of a handheld imaging translation device are described herein. The bits may be selected by determining a location of a print nozzle, mapping the location to a memory location, and selecting a bit from the memory location. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Abstract: A system comprises a control module that communicates with a printhead having nozzles, that detects a malfunctioning nozzle, and that generates control signals when the malfunctioning nozzle is detected. A vibration generator selectively vibrates the printhead along a first axis of a print medium based on the control signals. The first axis is selected from a group consisting of parallel and perpendicular to a second axis of motion of the print medium.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems that facilitate common feed path printing devices to discern between original media and blank media are described herein. The novel systems may include, among other things, a print and a scan mechanism having a common input path to receive a first and a second media, the first media being original media to be scanned by the scan mechanism, and the second media being blank media to be printed on by the print mechanism. The system may further include a divider and a first sensor. The divider being configured to provide to the common feed path the first and the second media by defining a first and a second input slot to locate the first and the second media, respectively, wherein the divider to provide the first and the second media to the common feed path via the first and second input slots. The first sensor may detect absence of the first media in the first input slot.

Abstract: A tracking device is provided for tracking a position of the tracking device in relation to a surface. The tracking device has a first optical sensor to capture a primary image of the surface. A second optical sensor is provided to capture a secondary image of the surface. A processor evaluates the primary and secondary images to determine a movement of the tracking device in relation to the surface.
