  • Patent number: 5273012
Abstract: A swash plate engine having a stationary torque reaction member to resist tangential forces by directly supporting a piston rod is disclosed. To accommodate the stationary torque reaction member the swash plate is provided with a slot which receives the stationary torque reaction member during rotation of the swash plate. The torque reaction member provides reaction forces to the piston rod to maintain a proper orientation for the piston rod as it presses against the swash plate, making a wobble plate unnecessary.

  • Patent number: 4812172
Abstract: Rotary apparatus and a related method for removing foreign and undesirable material from composite cans during the manufacturing operation includes a pair of rotatable plates having an axis of rotation and outwardly-extending fingers faced about the periphery thereof, and a plurality of reciprocating plungers arranged alongside the periphery of the plates and generally parallel with the axis of rotation, the plungers being rotated with the plates about a common drive shaft. The rearward end of each plunger engages a cam race for extending the plungers into and out of composite cans positioned about the periphery of the plate only during a portion of each revolution of rotation of the plate, in order to remove trim ring scrap and other foreign objects from the cans.

  • Patent number: 4185348
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for removing foreign and undesirable material from composite cans during the manufacturing operation includes a first conveyor having spindles thereon for indexing the cans on the first conveyor in a space parallel relation with an open end thereof faced in a direction substantially transverse to the direction of conveyance. A second conveyor is positioned alongside the first conveyor, and is positively controlled with, and driven with the first conveyor in the same direction at a uniform rate. A plurality of plungers are provided parallel to the cans and carried by the second conveyor, and a cam arrangement drives the plungers toward, through and away from the cans in order to pass the end of each plunger through a corresponding can to remove any foreign or undesirable materials therefrom.
