  • Patent number: 5737872
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a synthetic seed and a method for the manufacture thereof. The seed comprises a plant propagule which is capable of producing an entire plant, encapsulated in a material including an inert filler, a binder and water. The synthetic seed has a prescribed selected water-activity to maintain viability until exposed to germination permissive conditions, and is of sufficient mechanical strength/hardness for use with mechanical seeding devices.

  • Patent number: 5296369
Abstract: Commercial mycoherbicide compositions for the control of round-leaved mallow weeds (Malva pusilla Sm.), the active ingredient being the spores of the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides f.sp. malvae, ATCC 20767, these spores having been produced by a two-phase multi-staged liquid fermentation process, then separated from the mycelial biomass and concentrated into a spore slurry. The active ingredient of the mycoherbicide compositions, i.e., spores, can be packaged as a concentrated spore slurry or alternatively, dried and then packaged. Both the liquid and dry forms of the myco-herbicide are packaged in gas- and water-impermeable containers. The spores are stabilized prior to packaging or drying by the addition of a stabilizing agent or alternatively, stabilized after drying by adjusting their final water content. The initial, i.e.

  • Patent number: 3958649
Abstract: Two methods and four mechanisms are disclosed for drilling at right angles to a vertical well at any location or depth in the well. The drilling mechanisms each comprises a flexible spring biased telescopic fluid conduit having a turbodrill on the lower end thereof for extending from an opening in the side of an elongated cylindrical housing for drilling at right angles to the well. The flexible spring biased telescopic fluid conduit comprises a plurality of axially aligned spools with cylinders interconnecting the adjacent ends of adjacent spools and with a compression spring in each cylinder between the two adjacent spool ends for permitting flexibility and telescopic action of the fluid conduit while resisting high compression and torque loads.
