Patent number: 4635912Abstract: The work release stop of the present invention is adapted for use with conventional types of vises for engaging and limiting the rearward movement of the adjustable jaw of the vise when releasing a workpiece clamped between the fixed jaw and the adjustable jaw to facilitate the repetitive clamping and unclamping of workpieces positioned in the vise. The work release stop acts as an adjustable stop for the adjustable jaw and includes a stop plate extending transversely of the adjustable jaw and divided into first and second parts. Gripping jaw portions extend downwardly into the guideway slot of the vise and are engageable with opposite sides to thereby maintain the stop plate in longitudinally adjusted position in the guideway. A compression spring urges the adjustable jaw in a rearward position to reduce any "play" between the adjustable jaw and the operating screw shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1985Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Inventor: James E. Patent number: 4596114Abstract: A spinning ring member supported on an air bearing between the ring member and a ring holder, the air bearing being formed by an axial passageway between the ring holder and the ring member and upper and lower radial passageways. The upper radial passageway is open and unencumbered, and a barrier element is disposed directly in the path of the air flow through the lower radial passageway to interfere with and partially block such air flow, whereby pressurized air within the axial passageway will flow primarily through the upper radial passageway to impose a lifting force on the ring member. The upper and lower radial passageways are provided by upper and lower facing radial walls on the ring member and the ring holder, respectively, that have an equal axial spacing therebetween to provide simultaneous seating of the ring member at both radial walls when the ring member is at its inoperative or at rest position.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1985Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Assignee: Ringtex Industries, Inc.Inventor: James E. Patent number: 4270340Abstract: An air-bearing supported, freely rotated spinning or twisting ring carrying a yarn traveler having radical and cylindrical air-bearings and an annular plenum cavity in at least one of the cylindrical air-bearing surfaces for generally open, unencumbered and continuous admission of pressurized air to the air-bearings. The air-bearings communicate through an annularly disposed mutually connecting enlarged air space. Time delay means is provided for reducing the air supply to the air-bearings at a selected predetermined time after de-energizing the power drive of the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1979Date of Patent: June 2, 1981Assignee: Spin-O-Magic, Inc.Inventors: Joe B. Baucom, James E. Donnelly

Patent number: 4223576Abstract: A tool holder is provided for the cross slide of a lathe. A cutoff tool extends horizontally from the holder toward the rotational axis of a workpiece in the lathe, and a chamfering tool extends vertically downwardly from the holder in a common cutting plane with the cutoff tool. As the cutoff tool is advanced radially into the workpiece to cut a portion off the end thereof, the chamfering tool is thereby moved chordally with respect to the peripheral edges of the annular groove being formed in the workpiece by the cutoff tool. The cutting edges of the chamfering tool are preferably spaced from the cutoff tool such that they engage the groove edges during the cutting of the groove and complete the chamfering thereof prior to completion of cutoff.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1978Date of Patent: September 23, 1980Assignee: Spin-O-Magic, Inc.Inventor: James E. Donnelly

Patent number: 4154485Abstract: A system and apparatus for forming webs from textile fibers entrained in an air stream in a conduit with a perforated plate dividing the interior of a housing into first and second chambers so that the entrained fibers fall to the bottom of the first chamber and the air passes through the plate while a portion of the plate is oscillated. The passage between the conduit and first chamber increases in cross-section from conduit to first chamber to reduce the velocity of the air and entrained particles.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1977Date of Patent: May 15, 1979Assignee: Fiber Controls CorporationInventors: Kenneth G. Lytton, George J. Miller, James E. Donnelly

Patent number: 4100791Abstract: An apparatus for producing an electrical output signal which varies as a function of sliver thickness with a trumpet having a bore through which the sliver passes and a port opening into the bore, and a sensor with a housing defining an inner space sealingly divided by a flexible diaphragm into an upper compartment and a lower averaging compartment. The lower compartment is connected to the trumpet port and to a pressure source via a metering valve having an air escape port. A shaft is fixed for movement vertically with the diaphragm and has a weight on the end within the lower compartment and a magnetic portion in the upper compartment. Vertical movement of the diaphragm caused by a change in back pressure caused in turn by a change in sliver thickness produces an electrical signal in a coil wound about the shaft in the upper compartment as the coil interacts with the magnetic portion.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1977Date of Patent: July 18, 1978Assignee: Fiber Controls CorporationInventors: George J. Miller, Kenneth G. Lytton, James E. Donnelly

Patent number: 4009803Abstract: An improved web former for feeding a fiber web of dense material or the like to subsequent textile processing machinery. The web former disclosed incorporates an offset cam means comprising an eccentric sleeve concentrically rotatably journalled in a bearing assembly. The offset cam means oscillates a shaker plate between horizontal positions so that a web of uniform density and thickness may be compressed and moved downwardly through a chute defined by the shaker plate and a vertically extending wall to a plurality of fluted aluminum delivery rolls. The delivery rolls further assist in forming a web and transporting a web of fiber material to other textile equipment.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1974Date of Patent: March 1, 1977Assignee: Fiber Controls CorporationInventors: Kenneth G. Lytton, George J. Miller, James E. Donnelly
