  • Patent number: 5698941
Abstract: An optical correction layer for a light emitting apparatus having gaps in brightness at the light-emitting surface. The optical correction layer includes a plurality of optical correction regions centered over the gaps, and a plurality of optically transparent regions which overlay the remainder of the light-emitting surface. The optical correction regions include appropriately formed grooves which collect and redirect light adjacent the gap. The light is redirected to cover and effectively conceal the gap. The optically transparent regions permit light to travel through, without redirection.

  • Patent number: 5644187
Abstract: A an electron source utilizes a novel extraction grid conductor (20,40,41) to assist in focusing an electron beam emitted by the electron source. The extraction grid conductor (20,40,41) has a collimating conductor (29,31) that separate an extraction grid section (17,21,22) of the extraction grid conductor from conducting strips (26,24,32,33) that electrically connect the extraction grid section (17,21,22) to an external voltage source. The collimating conductor (29,31) creates an electric field that prevents emitted electrons from being attracted to the conducting strips (26,24,32,33) thereby maintaining the emitted electron beam in a substantially column-like configuration.

  • Patent number: 5528098
Abstract: An electron source is formed to have a redundant conductor extraction grid (17) and redundant column conductor (38, 39). Grid (17) has a plurality of conductor strips (21, 22) that overlay the column conductors (38, 39). When one conductor strip (21, 22) of the grid (17) is shorted to an underlying conductor, the non-shorted conductor remains usable. Similarly, the column conductors (38, 39) each have a plurality of column conductor strips (14, 25, 41, 42) that underlie the grid (17). When one column conductor strip (14, 25, 41, 42) is shorted to the grid (17), the non-shorted column conductor strip remains usable.

  • Patent number: 5502347
Abstract: A display device (10) positions emitters (34,36,37,38,41,42,43,44,46, and 47) equidistant from a meander conductor (26). The meander conductor (26) is formed with a pattern that facilitates such equidistant placement. The equidistant placement results in approximately equal ballast resistor values for each emitter (34,36,37,38,41,42,43,44,46, and 47).

  • Patent number: 5442254
Abstract: A fluorescent device, such as a fluorescent light or a CRT, is formed with a fluorescent screen including an optically transparent supporting substrate and a fluorescent layer deposited on the substrate. The fluorescent layer contains a plurality of particles each quantum confined by a size, generally below 100 .ANG. dictated by a specific desired color of emitted light. Approximately 50 .ANG. provides yellow light with larger particles moving toward red and smaller particles moving toward blue. • Patent number: 5410158
Abstract: Apparatus including a diamond semiconductor material bipolar transistor having associated therewith a distally disposed iso-collector. The iso-collector, when operated with a suitable voltage, provides a communicating electric field to the bipolar transistor collector which, in concert with a voltage coupled to the transistor base places the apparatus in an ON mode to induce electrons to be emitted from the collector and to be subsequently collected at the iso-collector. An iso-base is optionally, distally disposed relative to the base of the bipolar transistor.

  • Patent number: 5345141
Abstract: A single substrate, vacuum fluorescent display including a first layer of electrically conductive material positioned on a supporting substrate and a light emitting layer including phosphor positioned on the first layer. A second layer of electrically conductive material is supported on the substrate and electrically insulated from the first layer. An electron emitting layer of low work function material is positioned on the second layer and further positioned so that emitted electrons strike the light emitting layer. Since both the electron emitting and the light emitting layers are supported on the substrate, an encapsulating window is simple and easy to construct. Integrated drivers are optionally formed in the supporting substrate.
