  • Publication number: 20240110487
Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes a turbine section that has a retainer ring, a first vane that bears against the retainer ring to prevent movement of the first vane in a first axial direction, a second vane axially spaced from the first vane, and a blade axially between the first vane and the second vane. A blade outer air seal is situated radially outwardly of the blade. The blade outer air seal includes a ceramic matrix composite body that defines a core gaspath side that faces the blade, a forward end, an aft end, and circumferential sides. There is a spring seal at the aft end of the blade outer air seal that seals against the second vane. The spring seal provides a preload that biases the blade outer air seal against the first vane and thereby biases the first vane against the retainer ring.

  • Patent number: 5605517
Abstract: A power transmission having two simple planetary gear sets produces five forward speed ratios and a reverse ratio. The two highest forward speed ratios, fourth and fifth, are overdrive ratios using the same input member in one of the planetary sets and exchanging output members in the other planetary set. The power transmission also has a continuous input drive to a sun gear of one of the planetary sets and incorporates five clutches and two brakes to establish the five forward speed ratios. The clutches and brakes are disposed in parallel with the clutch and one-way device to permit more control of the shift timing.

  • Patent number: 5558173
Abstract: The present invention relates to a power transmission that is interposed between the internal combustion engine and the drive ratio selection transmission of a vehicle. A motor/generator is operatively connected to the power transmission, and the power transmission selectively drives accessories to the internal combustion engine, such as an oil pump, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. The power transmission employs compounded first and second planetary gear sets. A common gear member serves not only as the ring gear for the first planetary gear set but also as the sun gear for the second planetary gear set. The motor/generator drives the accessories when the internal combustion engine is idling or off, allowing those accessories to be smaller while delivering adequate output.

  • Patent number: 5558175
Abstract: An integrated power transmission has an internal combustion (IC) for engine power input, an electrical motor power input and a combining planetary transmission coupled with both power inputs. The power transmission also includes a multi-speed transmission input. The combining planetary transmission can be driven by the electric motor input only with a one-way device providing a reaction path for the combining planetary transmission and a stationary power input at the IC engine. A friction clutch member is provided to selectively establish a drive path including both power input members in a multi-speed transmission input. This clutch permits both power sources, electrical and internal combustion, to provide power to the combining planetary and also permits starting of the IC engine while the vehicle is in motion.

  • Patent number: 5509862
Abstract: A differential gear assembly has a pair of face gears meshing with intermeshing input and idler gears respectively. The face gears are secured by threaded fasteners carrier assembly which houses a pair of pinion side gears rotatably mounted on a pin or shaft, and a pair of output side gears both meshing with each pinion side gear. The output gears are connected with output shaft members which extend outwardly through the carrier and a surrounding housing. The separating forces generated between the meshing gear pairs (i.e., input/face, idler/face and pinion side/pinion output gears) are absorbed by the carrier assembly. The housing structure enclosing the gear members and carrier assembly is free from the gear separating forces.

  • Patent number: 5285111
Abstract: The present invention relates to a power transmission that is interposed between the internal combustion engine and the drive ratio selection transmission of a vehicle. A motor/generator is operatively connected to the power transmission, and the power transmission selectively adds and subtracts torque provided by the motor/generator to the torque provided by the internal combustion engine. The power transmission effects the operative interconnection between both the internal combustion engine and the motor/generator to the drive ratio selection transmission. The power transmission employs compounded first and second planetary gear sets. A common gear member serves not only as the ring gear for the first planetary gear set but also as the sun gear for the second planetary gear set. The power transmission provides operating advantages not possible with prior art mechanisms, and these advantages allow the internal combustion engine to operate with desirable engine emissions.

  • Patent number: 4597313
Abstract: A hydraulic control for an automatic transmission has a throttle valve providing a control pressure which is used in part to determine the transmission shift pattern. The throttle valve has a control area which is normally connected to exhaust. A solenoid responsive to the energizing of a high load engine accessory is operable to close the control area exhaust thereby causing the throttle valve to acknowledge the change in engine power available for vehicle drive. The throttle valve control pressure is thus changed to provide a signal more closely related to the engine torque available.
