  • Publication number: 20100330887
Abstract: A flap sander is disclosed for use with a workpiece having a nonlinear profile. The flap sander comprises a cylindrical rotary head including a central hub concentric with an axis of rotation of the rotary head, and an inclined surface extending radially outward from the central hub. A plurality of abrasive flaps are detachably secured to the inclined surface of the rotary head and are aligned in a radial array radiating outward from central hub to the periphery of the rotary head. Each of the abrasive flaps comprises an unsecured working edge having a nonlinear profile that substantially matches the profile of the workpiece to provide an even sanding distribution across the workpiece profile independent of the shape of the profile.

  • Patent number: 7261622
Abstract: An improved sanding wheel configured to rotate axially for sanding or polishing milled contours that will provide sharp edges and corners in the workpiece. The preferred sanding wheel has a cylindrical body with a plurality of segments extending radially from the body that have vertical, horizontal, angled, convex, or concave faces that match the contour of the milled workpiece. The faces of each of the segments have abrasive that may have a generally horizontal or vertical lay and the segments may be alternated. In one embodiment, equal numbers of segments with horizontal, vertical arcuate or angular faced abrasive surfaces are provided.

  • Patent number: 7101589
Abstract: A method for protecting from corrosion an element comprised of magnesium or a magnesium alloy comprises applying an adhesion promoter after applying a chromate solution to a surface of the element, whereby the chromate solution creates a corrosion-resistant chromate layer on the surface. The method further includes applying an organic coating, such as a resin seal, over the adhesion promoter so as to provide a seal from water and corrosive elements. The adhesion promoter provides improved adhesion between the chromate layer and the organic coating. Corrosion may be removed from the magnesium element before the application of the chromate solution.

  • Patent number: 4373984
Abstract: Mounted in tandem on an elongated frame, a plurality of applicator head assemblies affords a versatile machine for bonding a decorative coating even to a relatively complicated pre-shaped edge of a workpiece. Means on the head for accurately positioning a rotatable applicator wheel having a circumference of silicone rubber profiled to match the edge permits the wheel to urge the coating with precision and uniformity onto the contoured edge of the substrate. An external radiant heat source raises the temperature of the silicone rubber periphery which, in turn, transfers heat by conduction to a transfer foil, thereby releasing the foil carrier and bonding the decorative film to the substrate edge. Pressure applied by the wheel in the plane of the wheel creates a wheel flat resulting in increased contact area and dwell time, thereby enhancing bonding precision and strength.

  • Patent number: 4338040
Abstract: A whaler corner box arrangement is disclosed herein for holding a pair of beams at right angles to each other which includes an enclosure having a pair of open-ended passageways extending normal with respect to each other so as to insertably receive the opposing and adjacent ends of beams intended to be temporarily joined together. A plurality of holes are provided in the enclosure in communication with each of the passageways for accommodating the introduction of nails therethrough into the beams within the respective passageways. Rotary clamp retainers are operably carried on the enclosure for releasably engaging with each beam preparatory to the nailing procedure.

  • Patent number: 3984211
Abstract: A circular rotatably driven knife assembly for cutting strips including a carriage for supporting the cutting knife and drive means for the carriage and knife. The knife structure has particular utility for cutting strips of vulcanized rubber such as the tread material adapted to be bonded to the outside of a tire casing, the knife having abrasive grits bonded to its side walls adjacent its periphery to buff the ends of the strip simultaneously with the cutting operation to condition the ends cut off of the portion of the strip for splicing during the vulcanizing step after the severed end of the strip has been wrapped around the tire with the ends pressed into contact with each other.
