  • Patent number: 5134754
Abstract: A one-piece pull comprises a generally box-shaped one-piece part having an opening in a face thereof, a pair of opposing side walls, a bottom wall and an upper wall, with the side walls, upper wall and bottom wall each having flange members formed integral therewith to facilitate the flush mounting of the pull to a panel. The pull is provided with a channel on an upper surface thereof and a plurality of boss members on a lower surface thereof, which facilitate the proper positioning of the pull relative to the panel. At least one retaining member is formed integral with a lower surface of the pull and comprises a support member and a resiliently movable leg member extending from the support, wherein upon insertion of the pull into an aperture in a panel, the resilient leg member flexes to permit passage of the panel and then returns to a substantially unflexed position with a snap-like action, whereby the panel is retained in sandwich relation to the bottom flange and the resilient leg member.

  • Patent number: 4863326
Abstract: A captive fastener for securing two closure members together comprises a crew component adapted to be affixed to one of the closure members and a complimentary nut component adapted to be affixed to the other closure member. The screw component comprises a housing, a drive sleeve disposed within the housing for rotational movement therein, and a screw member in operatinal engagement with the drive sleeve whereby the screw member is axially movable between extended and retracted positions relative to the housing in response to the rotational movement of the drive sleeve. The nut component comprises a shell, a nut member disposed within the shell for limited axial and radial movement therein and fixed against rotation, and biasing means for urging against the axial movement of the nut member. The radial and axial movement of the nut member facilitates the alignment and engagement of the screw member with the nut member to eliminate binding when the closure members are assembled.

  • Patent number: 4827811
Abstract: A tamper-resistant torque-responsive fastener is provided having a head and a shank, wherein the head is provided with a socket therein having a substantially triangular shape with rounded corners and curved sides, each of the rounded corners being defined by an arcuate path of a first radius and each curved side generally opposite the rounded corner being defined by the arcuate path of a second radius, whereby the dimensions across the socket remain constant and equal to the sum of the first and second radii. The second radius is of greater length than the first radius and is preferably between 2 and 4 times as long as the first radius. Also provided is a driving tool for operating the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4630333
Abstract: An adjustable friction hinge assembly of thermoplastic material comprises a first hinge leaf having spaced-apart non-adjustable knuckles having non-circular through holes and a second hinge leaf having a single clamping knuckle which fits into the space between the spaced-apart non-adjustable knuckles. The hinge pin is a unitary pin having non-circular end portions having a diameter which is larger than that of the circular cross-section intermediate portion. The inside diameter of the middle knuckle as molded is too small to receive the non-circular end portion of the hinge pin. During assembly, the inside diameter of the middle knuckle is extended to receive the non-circular end portion of the hinge pin. The frictional torque resistance on the knuckle is controlled by the middle clamping knuckle which is controlled by an adjustment screw.

  • Patent number: 4540206
Abstract: An adjustable draw latch of the over-center type for latching two closure members has a tension-link cover which is detachably secured pivotally at one end to a keeper mounted on one of the closure members. The cover is secured pivotally at its other end to one end of an adjustable compression link. The other end of the compression link is pivotally attached to a base bracket mounted on the other closure member. The adjustable compression link includes an internally threaded nut which is pivotal within the base bracket, and a T-shaped member having an a cross head of cylindrical shape and an externally threaded stud which extends from the cross head at right angles thereto and is threaded into the pivot nut. The cross head is pivotally secured within the cover at one end thereof. The cover provides a bearing surface for the cross head.

  • Patent number: 4490884
Abstract: An adjustable friction hinge assembly of thermoplastic material comprises a first hinge leaf having spaced apart non-adjustable knuckles having non-circular through holes, and a second hinge leaf having a single knuckle which fits into the space between the spaced-apart non-adjustable knuckles. The hinge pin has non-circular portions which are received with the corresponding non-circular through holes of said spaced-apart knuckles, and which prevent rotation of said hinge pin in said knuckles. The inside diameter of the middle knuckle is adjustable by an adjustment screw, thereby to control the frictional torque resistance of the knuckle on the hinge pin. Provision is made for squeezing some of the plastic material into the threads of said adjustment screw, thereby to maintain the adjustment at its initially set position despite repeated openings and closings of the hinged door, cover or lid.

  • Patent number: 4026588
Abstract: A push-to-open magnetic catch for cabinet doors and the like has a housing and within the housing is a rectangular magnet mounted at one end of a pivotal lever. The housing is ordinarily so positioned within the cabinet that the forward edge of the magnet projects forwardly of the cabinet to receive and make magnetic contact with the closing door or with an armature plate mounted thereon. In normal closed position, an overtravel space exists between the inner surface of the door or armature plate and the cabinet. The lever has a forward edge so contoured that when, to open, the closed door is pushed inwardly into the overtravel space, the lever is cammed pivotally inwardly, thereby pulling the magnet inwardly along a line or path guided by the housing. This separates the magnet from the door, and allows the force of a spring-loaded plunger, which has been pushing outwardly against the door, to push the door outwardly when the inward force is removed.
