Abstract: A method includes receiving an initial electronic file where the initial electronic file is associated with a work product. The method further includes resolving, automatically, an electronic file content type associated with the initial electronic file and executing, automatically, at least one subscription program associated with the electronic file content type of the initial electronic file. The method further includes retrieving an enhanced electronic file based on a matter security level. The enhanced electronic file is associated with an indication of completion of the at least one subscription program. Another embodiment includes extracting a set of metadata from the initial electronic file and storing the set of metadata from the initial electronic file in a memory. Yet another embodiment includes populating, automatically, at least one field within a field-oriented electronic file from the set of metadata.

Abstract: A method for using a messaging program across a multiple applications and communications environment includes engaging a multiple applications and communications environment. The multiple applications and communications environment comprises at least one primary application and at least one secondary application. The at least one primary application is associated with a primary work product object and the at least one secondary application is associated with a secondary work product object. The primary work product object and the secondary work product object are associated with a work product matter. The method further includes configuring a messaging program to establish a first chat instance within the primary work product object and a second chat instance within the secondary work product object. The first chat instance and the second chat instance are determined by a set of permissions related to the primary work product object.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed that allow a user to enter a query in a query input region of a graphical user interface and respond to the query by automatically directing it to an appropriate database, saving a user from having to choose among the myriad databases within the system. The system provides shareable folders for not only selected documents or excerpts from documents, but also for annotations and markups associated with documents. The system also enables a user to set permissions as to whether to allow documents, as well annotations and markups, private or publicly available to other users. Further, the system allows a user to specify an action that is to occur once a particular event occurs affecting a document, annotation or markup.
