  • Patent number: 9469718
Abstract: Polyurethane cushions are formed on the surface of a textile such as carpet. The polyurethane is made in the reaction of a polyurethane forming composition that is frothed, and contains water as a blowing agent. The polyurethane forming composition is cured between the substrate and a containment layer, both of which prevent the blowing gasses from escaping during the curing process. The process allows low density attached cushions to be formed controllably.

    Assignee: Dow Global Technologies LLC
Inventors: James K. Jennings, Thomas H. Perry, Randall C. Jenkines, Allen L. Atkinson
  • Patent number: 6040381
Abstract: The present invention is a continuous process for preparing formulations useful for making filled polymer carpet backings. The present invention particularly incorporates polyisocyanate as a reactive diluent in a continuous process for preparing filled polyurethane polymers. Use of the present invention allows production of carpet backings that incorporate high loadings of filler materials.

  • Patent number: 4734455
Abstract: This invention is an active hydrogen-containing composition comprising a relatively high equivalent weight active hydrogen-containing material and an inert, particulate filler which is stabilized with a stabilizer composition comprising(1) a carboxylic or phosphorus-containing acid containing about 8 to about 30 carbon atoms and(2) a metal salt of a carboxylic acid containing about 8 to about 30 carbon atoms. The stabilizer composition substantially reduces the tendency of the filler to settle out of the relatively high equivalent weight active hydrogen-containing compound, while having minimal impact on the reactivity of the active hydrogen-containing composition with a polyisocyanate and on the physical properties of the resultant polyurethane.

  • Patent number: 4657790
Abstract: A process for preparing a substrate backed with a polymer derived from an organic polyisocyanate, said process comprising the steps of(a) forming a precoat layer of a precoat reaction mixture comprising a substantially difunctional polyahl and a substantially difunctional organic polyisocyanate,(b) separately forming a capcoat layer of a capcoat reaction mixture comprising a polyahl and a polyisocyanate,(c) contacting said precoat layer with one surface of said substrate before said precoat layer is cured to a tack-free state,(d) contacting said capcoat layer with one surface of said precoat layer before at least one of said precoat layer and capcoat layer is cured to a tack-free state,(e) completing curing said capcoat and precoat layer, and(f) cooling the resulting polymer-backed substrate to a temperature less than about 35.degree. • Patent number: 4561526
Abstract: A steering and support handle for a wheeled luggage case is operatively pivotably connected to the wheeled luggage case to pivot to an operative or extended position in front of the case or to an inoperative or closed position adjoining the case. Means operative on the pivoted end of the handle biases the handle to maintain the operative position upon movement of the handle into the operative position and biases the handle to maintain the inoperative position upon movement of the handle into the inoperative position. The pivoted end of the handle is connected to the case by connecting means which provides a shoulder which is contacted by a surface on the pivoted end of the handle when the handle is moved to the operative position. The handle is T-shaped and its crossed end piece can be conveniently gripped in the hand of the user. The handle is preferably located in an indented marginal area at the closure location of the two opposed case halves or shells.
