  • Patent number: 7533555
Abstract: A rivet table connected to the nosepiece of a rivet setting apparatus. The rivet table includes an outer sleeve which controllably slides back and forth within the nosepiece and supports opposing jaws pivotally connected to the outer sleeve about spaced transverse pivot axes. The jaws pivot between a closed position and an open position, biased toward the closed position and define a flat transverse distal rivet head receiving surface, and a central mandrel-receiving aperture therebetween to slidably receive a rivet mandrel and to support the rivet head against said rivet head receiving surface during rivet setting. The jaws are momentarily forced into the open position by the mandrel moving laterally into the aperture and being carried on a flexible strip. The exposed surface of the rivet head is thereby substantially free of tool marks after being set.

  • Patent number: 7347078
Abstract: An elongated rivet bag holding a quantity of blind rivets ready for use in an automatic rivet setting tool. The rivets are connected along an elongated flexible rivet carrying strip by having a distal portion of each mandrel inserted or pierced through the carrying strip and positioned and stored in a random orientation within the rivet bag which is openable at an upper end thereof to render the rivets and strip ready for use. A blind rivet feed device for feeding the rivet-loaded strip into the nose of the automatic rivet setting tool is also provided along with a rivet strip collection bag for the empty strip.

  • Patent number: 5207085
Abstract: A blind rivet setting device which automatically feeds blind rivets into a rivet table, then sets the rivet by pulling and detaching the mandrel. The rivet feed mechanism includes a thin strip or ribbon of flexible material capable of holding the mandrel tips pierced therethrough and evenly spaced apart. The strip is drawn through a transverse feed slot formed through the rivet table generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the device. A spring biased retracting device continuously pulls the strip through the feed slot so that the next rivet in succession facing the rivet table is automatically drawn into axial alignment within the rivet table ready for positioning and setting into a work surface. A worm gear with eccentric output drives a connecting rod for pulling and fracturing each mandrel from the rivet body. A flywheel connected between a motor drive and the worm gear arrangement enhances mandrel pulling capacity.

  • Patent number: 5184497
Abstract: A magazine for compactly holding and feeding therefrom a quantity of blind rivets to a specially configured rivet table of a blind rivet setting device. The magazine, as part of an automatic rivet feed mechanism, contains a thin elongated strip or ribbon of flexible material holding the mandrel tips pierced through the strip evenly spaced apart. The strip is drawn from the magazine through a transverse feed slot formed through the rivet table generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the device. A spring biased retracting device continuously pulls the strip through the feed slot so that the next rivet in succession facing the rivet table is automatically drawn into axial alignment within the rivet table ready for positioning and setting into a work surface.
