    Abstract: An insole includes a heel collar formed by a relatively hard bottom member and a softer top member, the heel collar underlying the heel and arch region and having a channel in its upper surface. A forefoot pad has a forward portion that underlies the forefoot and a rear portion that fits in the channel of the heel collar and is adhered therein. Relatively softer foam pads are disposed within recesses in the lower surface of the forefoot pad in the forefoot and heel strike areas. A footwear system can include the insole in combination with a knit sock having thick padded ball and heel portions and a thinner arch portion, and the insole has an upper surface contoured to abuttingly mate with the sock. The footwear system can also include a shoe in combination with the insole, where the shoe functions to enhance the benefits of the insole.

    Abstract: A slipper sock having improved wearer comfort and providing enhanced foot protection is described. The slipper sock includes a sock having thickened padded portions along the ball and heel portions, with a relatively thinner arch portion therebetween. The device also includes a footbed having a first receptacle for underlying the ball portion of the sock and a second receptacle for underlying the heel portion of the sock. The footbed further includes a lip surrounding substantially the entire dimension of each of the receptacles, and the footbed is positioned so that the first receptacle matingly interfaces with the thickened ball portion of the sock and the second receptacle matingly interfaces with the thickened heel portion of the sock. The footbed also desirably includes at least one cavity, with an insert having relatively less resistance to compression than the footbed being positioned within the cavity.

    Abstract: A foot protector for providing cushioning comfort and support to the foot of a wearer is described. The foot protector has a toe portion, a ball portion and an instep portion, and a pad positioned on the ball portion. The pad has an arcuate front edge, and the pad is positioned on the foot protector such that the arcuate front edge of the pad is located proximate the juncture of the toe portion and the ball portion, such that the transition from the padded region to the relatively less padded region is positioned below the toe joints, where it is not readily felt by the wearer. The padding can be formed during the knitting process, with the padding being formed by a plurality of terry loops.

The footwear system has a knit sock and a shoe. Each of the ball and heel portions is formed of thicker knit fabric than the arch portion thereby providing a greater amount of protection and cushioning to the ball and heel of the foot of the wearer than to the arch portion. The shoe includes a sole having a ball portion, a heel portion, and a raised arch portion for contacting and interfacing with the respective overlying portions of the sock.

    Abstract: A foot protector for use in combination with stocking-type hosiery to cushion and protect a wearer's foot is described. The foot protector is preferably knit to include padding in the form of integrally knit terry loops, and has a specially constructed top portion for encircling the wearer's ankle. The top portion extends upwardly to a greater extent proximate the wearer's heel than the instep, and is substantially unpadded. When the foot protector is worn in a layered relationship with a stocking and a shoe, the protector is only minimally visible, if at all, thereby providing enhanced wearer comfort while maintaining the appearance of wearing stockings and shoes alone.

    Abstract: A foot protector in combination with hosiery, such as high fashion women's hosiery, is provided to be worn on a foot of a wearer. The foot protector is designed and constructed to provide cushioning comfort to a ball portion, i.e., bottom or planar areas thereof, of a wearer's foot to concentrate cushioning to where most needed. The foot protector preferably is a knit footlet having integrally knit thickened cushion areas provided only in ball portion areas thereof, whereby other areas of the footlet are not thickened to such an amount as to make a shoe feel undersized and tight on a wearer's foot. The knit thickened cushion areas have terry loops integrally knit only in a ball portion of the footlet and are so constructed as to underlie only a corresponding ball portion of a wearer's foot.

    Abstract: The anatomical isotonic sock and method for knitting the sock provide enhanced protection and cushioning comfort to the foot of the wearer and is form-fitting and remains so after prolonged periods of use and numerous launderings. The sock has a knit foot and includes a relatively thick density of terry loops formed of at least three terry yarns in the ball and heel portions of the foot for supplementing and protecting the fatty pads so as to provide a therapeutic and preventative benefit to the foot of the wearer. A relatively thin density of terry loops formed of at least one terry yarn is knit in an arch portion and an instep portion of the foot and an intermediate density of terry loops formed of two terry yarns is knit in a toe portion.

    Abstract: A cushioning pad of heavy fabric thickness (P-2), including double terry loops (T-1 and T-2), is formed in the high pad area (12) at the medial portion of the rear of the leg (L) to provide cushioning characteristics in this area to protect the rear of the lower leg of the wearer from chafing by the upper edge of a snowboarding boot. A pad of maximum fabric thickness (P-3), including triple terry loops (T-1, T-2 and T-3) is provided in the high splice area (13) above the heel (14) and defines a locking pad to force the wearer's foot forwardly into the boot when the foot is inserted into the boot to provide a firm fit of the foot of the wearer in the boot. Pads of heavy fabric thickness (P-2) are provided in the ball (18) and toe (15) to cushion the toes of the wearer and to absorb shocks in the ball area when landing after completing flip-over operations or maneuvers.
