  • Patent number: 7592908
Abstract: Systems, methods and devices for gathering data concerning exposure of predetermined survey participants to media displays are provided. A portable monitor is arranged to receive certain types of terrestrial-based signals, and in some specific cases, satellite-based signals, and to use such signals to generate location data indicative of a location of the portable monitor. The location data and stored media display data is analyzed to evaluate the survey participant's exposure to one or more media displays.

  • Publication number: 20090037575
Abstract: Methods of gathering data concerning a location of an audience member proximate to a content presentation are provided. A stationary device is proximate to the content presentation. A portable monitor is carried by or with the person of an audience member. Location data is obtained by communicating data from the portable monitor to the stationary device, or from the stationary device to the portable monitor, or by comparing data gathered by both the stationary device and the portable monitor.

  • Patent number: 7483975
Abstract: The present invention concerns methods and systems for gathering data concerning usage of media data provided from a predetermined receiver to a user. First data concerning usage of the media data is gathered by means of a portable monitor carried on the person of the user. Second data concerning usage of media data by the predetermined receiver is gathered by a monitoring system separate from the portable monitor, the second data corresponding to at least a portion of the first data. Audience measurement data is produced based on the first and second data.

  • Publication number: 20080288588
Abstract: A system and method are provided for searching networked electronic media. The method includes the operation of mapping a user selected keyword to a category identifier for search result generation in a search engine. A search result can be produced that contains alisting of URLs for the category identifier. Then the search result can be dynamically populated with images through identity mapping of the image to a URL. The search can determine the display images to a URL based on a user's profile, like age, and the URL's popularity with other users sharing a similar user profile. The URLs and an associated image for the search can be obtained through a community of users.

  • Publication number: 20080181303
Abstract: A system and method are provided for compressing video frames having a plurality of pixels. The video frames are viewable by an end user on a display. The method can include the operation of receiving a color palette from a key frame of video. Then a color value can be identified from the color palette. The pixels within a current frame that use the same color value that has been identified can then be selected. A further operation is grouping a color value together with frame coordinates of each pixel that uses the color value following the color value.

  • Patent number: 7316025
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for encoding and decoding information in broadcast or recorded segment signals are described. In certain embodiments, an audience monitoring system encodes identification information in the audio signal portion of a broadcast or recorded segment using spread spectrum encoding. A personal monitoring device receives an acoustically reproduced version of the broadcast or recorded signal via a microphone, decodes the identification information from the audio signal portion despite significant ambient noise, and stores this information, automatically providing a diary for the audience member which is later uploaded to a centralized facility. A separate monitoring device decodes additional information from the broadcast signal, which is matched with the audience diary information at the central facility.

  • Patent number: 7115052
Abstract: Sport ball training devices and methods for releasably holding a tennis ball or other sport ball at an appropriate height for the practice of striking the ball, either directly or indirectly with a racket or the like. An embodiment may have a support device with a base and an adjustable vertical tubular assembly for the support of a transverse arm from which a ball sling is suspended. A retainer member of the ball sling circumferentially holds a sport ball. An embodiment of the retainer member may be made from an elastometric material that lightly squeezes the ball with sufficient force to restrain it, but releases easily when the ball is hit so that the trajectory of the ball is not affected by the presence of the retainer member nor is the racquet significantly affected by the presence of the ball sling generally.
