Patent number: 7599815Abstract: A method for measuring compliance with building air quality attribute set points. The method includes the steps of sensing a first attribute of environmental air quality, setting a range of acceptable values for the first attribute, setting a penalty function for the first attribute and comparing sensed data to the first range of acceptable values. The first penalty function is applied as appropriate to assess a first set of points for the first attribute. An index value is created that is a function of the first set of points. In another aspect, the method includes sensing a second attribute, comparing the data against acceptable values and applying a second penalty function as appropriate. The index value is also a function of the second set of points. In yet another aspect, the method includes the step of sensing a first attribute at a second site.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2006Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: PureChoice, Inc.Inventors: Bryan S. Patent number: 6832728Abstract: An apparatus is provided for reading indicia, such as a bar code, from a remote location. The apparatus includes a light source for illuminating the indicia, preferably with infrared illumination. The indicia is incorporated in a reflective medium, disposed remotely from the light source, which reflects the illumination provided by the light source. The apparatus includes a light sensing device also disposed remotely from the reflective medium. The light sensing device receives the reflected image of the indicia and generates an indicia image signal based thereon. An indicia processing system receives and operates on the indicia image signal to extract indicia information therefrom. The light source and the light sensing device may be located up to 75 feet or more away from the reflective medium, and the reflective medium may be moving at speeds of up to 85 miles per hour or more relative to the light source and the light sensing device.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2001Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Assignee: PIPS Technology, Inc.Inventor: James M. Patent number: 6424496Abstract: A variable width flat tape head for bi-directional contact recording and method for making the same has significant advantages over both traditional contoured tape heads and single width flat heads for contact recording applications. The variable width head and process disclosed herein allows for greater ease of manufacturing, efficient layout of the devices on thin film wafers and provides a significant cost reduction in the production of the head compared to traditionally contoured tape heads. In addition, the present invention reduces unnecessary surface area where the tape contacts the head, thus reducing tape wear and damage that is present in single width flat heads (where the tape is in contact uniformly across the tape width), thereby providing a concomitant improvement in tape wear and life.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2000Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Assignee: Quantum CorporationInventors: Donna Jean Kaiser, James M. Patent number: 3965924Abstract: A brake for a center pivot irrigation system which prevents the drive towers of the system from undesirably moving in either a forwardly or rearwardly direction unless the brake means is released. The brake means comprises a spring loaded arm pivotally secured to the drive tower frame and having a lug receiving notch formed therein which is adapted to receive a lug provided on the drive wheel to prevent rotation of the drive wheel in either direction when the arm is in a first position. An actuating arm is also pivotally connected to the drive tower frame and is interconnected to the brake arm by a flexible cable extending therebetween and over a pulley. As the trojan bar on the drive tower moves through its drive stroke, the trojan bar engages the actuator arm to pivotally move the same so that the locking arm is moved upwardly out of engagement with the drive lug.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1975Date of Patent: June 29, 1976Inventor: James M.
