  • Publication number: 20240001328
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus comprising a microwave generator, for heating catalyst material, and an electrochemical pump. A reactive process is catalyzed by the heated catalyst material to produce reaction products, and some of the reaction products are recovered via the electrochemical pump.

  • Publication number: 20230411813
Abstract: A microwave mode coupling device for transferring electromagnetic (EM) energy from a first structure to a second structure while providing a pressure barrier between the first structure and the second structure, the coupling device comprising first and second transmission line sections separated by an intermediate waveguide section.

  • Publication number: 20210086158
Abstract: Gas streams may be effectively processed using microwave energy in such a way as to significantly reduce processing cost and plant complexity. In the first instance, microwave energy is used to generate a self-catalytic, non-equilibrium plasma, resulting in essentially complete gas reaction at industrial scales of operation. In the second instance, microwave energy is used in combination with conventional catalyst materials to significantly enhance their performance by enabling operation at reduced gas temperatures. In this second instance, the microwave energy may be used either to generate a non-equilibrium plasma or to selectively and directly heat the catalyst material.

  • Patent number: 8669294
Abstract: Streams (11) of natural gas contaminated with significant amounts of carbon dioxide can be efficiently and economically processed to create Syngas (16). An available source (1) of flue gas that might otherwise be dispersed into the atmosphere in conjunction with such a CO2-laden natural gas stream (11) renders the process even more economical and efficient through the creation of multiple feedstreams (14, 27, 34) that are combined to deliver a composite near equal mixture of methane and CO2 to a plasma reactor (15) or the like that will generate Syngas. When coupled with a Fischer-Tropsch reactor (40), the overall process provides a particularly efficient and economical process for producing synthetic liquid hydrocarbons.

  • Patent number: 7214254
Abstract: A method of reducing mercury levels in a mercury contaminated material using microwave energy. The method comprises the steps of (a) placing the mercury contaminated material in a microwave reactor; (b) providing a stream of gas in the microwave reactor, the stream causing agitation of the mercury contaminated material; and (c) exposing the mercury contaminated material to microwave radiation so as to raise the temperature to at least 357° C., producing a vapour phase which contains mercury and a treated material. The method also allows for a simultaneous reduction of mercury and carbon levels in the material to be treated as well as the use of a carbon-free material in the reactor.

  • Publication number: 20020189497
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of reducing carbon levels in fly ash. The method comprises the steps of: (a) placing the fly ash in a microwave reactor; (b) exposing said fly ash to microwave radiation in the presence of carbon-free material so as to raise its temperature to at least 600° C. while agitating the fly ash in the presence of oxygen; and; (c) terminating exposure of said fly ash to said microwave radiation when the carbon content of the fly ash has fallen below a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 6074533
Abstract: The present invention provides a new and useful method for controlling microwave energy distribution in the reaction chamber of a fluidized bed reactor by tapering the reaction zone of the reaction chamber so that the cross-section diameter at the lower end differs from the cross-section diameter at the upper end by a factor of .sqroot..epsilon..sub.r .
