  • Patent number: 10363727
Abstract: An in-line method for manufacturing a plurality of multilayer pads, and the resultant pads. Provided are either a web of fusible base-pad-forming material and a web of fusible intermediate barrier-layer-forming material or a bottom fusible web, and a web of fusible handle-forming material. There is no need for handle-forming material to have a width less than the width of pads being manufactured; it can be challenging to maintain the lateral alignment of multiple handle-forming strips. Either one or two thermal bonding stations are employed, with particular bonding patterns, before pads are cut out. The handle has an outer periphery coextensive with the outer periphery of the base pad and handle layers. The pads have either “wings” handles, or “L”-shaped handles.

  • Publication number: 20160128541
Abstract: In-line methods for manufacturing a plurality of multilayer pads and the resultant pads. Various embodiments of the invention employ one or two thermal bonding stations, such as ultrasonic bonding stations, along with handle folding tooling, to produce two- or three-layer pads in various configurations, without the use of adhesive. Following bonding and handle folding, a cutter, such as a die cutter, is employed to cut through the layers to form individual pads. Pads of various configurations are manufactured, including pads with “L”-shaped handles, handles of “wing” configuration, and “folded” handles.

  • Publication number: 20030070746
Abstract: Multilayer disposable pads for use as wipes or applicators in various applications, including the cosmetic and personal care fields and the medical field. The pads include an absorbent base pad and a flexible handle attached either to an intermediate barrier layer or to the base pad. To form the handle, handle forming material is mechanically folded, employing a pleating/folding machine, prior to being adhered to the barrier layer or to the base pad. In one embodiment, the handle includes a graspable portion made of two facing segments which may be joined along a distal folded edge, and two handle attached portions respectively joined to the facing segments along fold lines.

  • Patent number: 5771524
Abstract: Multilayer disposable pads for use as wipes or applicators in various applications, including the cosmetics and personal care fields and the medical field. The pads include an absorbent base pad, an impervious barrier layer attached to the base pad, and a flexible handle attached to the barrier layer in a selective attachment area to define a handle attached portion and at least one handle graspable portion. The barrier layer may be attached to the base pad by being coated over the base pad without the use of adhesives, including being fused to the base pad when they are both made of a thermoplastic material. The handle attached portion may be fused to the barrier layer in an ultrasonic bonding process, again without the use of adhesive.

  • Patent number: 5507906
Abstract: The invention comprises a method for manufacturing a laminated pad in a cost-efficient manner. In one embodiment, the method comprises the steps of applying strips of adhesive to a first substrate and mounting the first substrate to a second substrate. Next, adhesive is applied to the entire width of a third substrate which is in turn mounted to the laminated first and second substrates to create a laminated sheet. The laminated sheet can be slit and then die cut into individual laminated pads. The pads which result from this process have a base pad, an intermediate layer which is adhered to the base pad and a top layer in which only a portion of the top layer is mounted to the intermediate layer.

  • Patent number: 4066445
Abstract: Magnesium metal is produced by the reaction of aluminum metal with a calcium magnesium aluminate slag or with magnesium oxide in the presence of such slag, wherein the silicon dioxide content of the slag is maintained at five weight percent or less. An excess of aluminum metal relative to the amount of magnesium oxide is employed thereby obtaining a high conversion of the magnesium oxide to magnesium metal.
