  • Patent number: 11572296
Abstract: This invention relates to the use of chlorite-based antimicrobials in a manner where the time of biocidal activity is extended for the microbial control in the water used for drilling, completion and remediation of wells. The invention involves mixing of a compatible extender in the form of sodium chlorate with sodium chlorite to form an antimicrobial formulation. This combination is used with an acid on the site to generate chlorine dioxide which is injected into the water used for hydraulic fracturing or remedial workover. The formulation is a much more effective bactericide for the subterranean oil and gas rich formations. The potency and longevity of biocidal activity is controlled by varying the ratios of chlorate and acid which provide different profiles of the antimicrobial activities.

  • Patent number: 5855922
Abstract: Compositions and processes for the prophylaxis and therapeutic treatment of wounds, chronic non-healing wounds, burns, disease and other dermal disorders are disclosed. The compositions of the present invention comprise aqueous solutions of a metal chlorite having a concentration of from about 0.002% to about 0.5% by weight of metal chlorite. The process of the present invention comprises treating the dermal disorder with an aqueous solution of from about 0.002% to about 0.5% by weight of a metal chlorite. Wounds, chronic non-healing wounds, burns and other dermal disorders treated in this manner heal more quickly and with reduced scar formation. The antiseptic compositions and processes of the present invention exhibit anticollagenous activity such that the characteristics of the healed skin, such as elasticity and tensile strength, are similar to undamaged skin.

  • Patent number: 5246662
Abstract: A method for disinfection a device such as a contact lens. The method comprises contacting the device with an aqueous liquid medium containing an effective amount of chlorine dioxide at effective disinfecting conditions. The chlorine dioxide being derived by contacting a liquid medium containing chlorine dioxide precursor with a transition metal component in an effective amount to promote the generation of chlorine dioxide from the chlorine dioxide precursor. The liquid medium further optionally containing a buffer component in an amount effective to maintain the liquid medium at a desired pH during the generation of chlorine dioxide, and to increase the rate of chlorine dioxide generation from chlorine dioxide precursor relative to a similar liquid medium without the buffer component.

  • Patent number: 5008096
Abstract: A method for enhancing generation of chlorine dioxide from an aqueous medium containing a chlorine dioxide precursor which comprises contacting the aqueous medium with a catalytic amount of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of a transition metal, a transition metal oxide and mixtures thereof for a period of time effective to generate chlorine dioxide. The transition metals and transition metal oxides which may be employed as the catalyst to enhance the generation of chlorine dioxide are the transition metals of Group 5B, 6B, 7B and 8 of the Periodic Table of Elements.
