  • Patent number: 10454751
Abstract: A cluster file system comprises a burst buffer appliance coupled to a plurality of object storage servers via a network. The burst buffer appliance comprises a controller configured to implement storage tiering control functionality for at least first and second storage tiers comprising respective disjoint subsets of the plurality of object storage servers. The burst buffer appliance is thereby configured to control movement of data between the first and second storage tiers. The object storage servers in the first storage tier may be configured to interface with object storage targets of a first type and the object storage servers in the second storage tier may be configured to interface with object storage targets of a second type different than the first type. For example, the object storage targets of the first type may comprise non-volatile electronic storage devices such as flash storage devices, and the object storage targets of the second type may comprise disk storage devices.

  • Patent number: 9858290
Abstract: Cluster file systems are provided having a FUSE interface. A cluster file system comprises a FUSE object storage device that communicates with at least one object storage server of the cluster file system; and provides an interface between the cluster file system and at least one additional file system having a FUSE implementation. The additional file system optionally includes a burst buffer appliance. The burst buffer appliance can be configured, for example, to control the movement of data between first and second storage tiers. The burst buffer appliance can optionally communicate with a plurality of clients over the network and process requests from the clients. The FUSE object storage device provides an interface to, for example, a parallel log-structured file system and/or a Lustre clustered file system.

  • Patent number: 9667719
Abstract: Parallel storage systems are provided with a multi-tier hardware accelerated partitioned key-value store. A distributed storage system for storing a partitioned key-value store comprises at least one compute node comprising a partitioned key-value store server; the partitioned key-value store server being configured to store key-value data on at least one hardware accelerated key-value store. The hardware accelerated key-value store comprises, for example, a flash-based hardware accelerated key-value store and/or a disk-based hardware accelerated key-value store. The compute nodes optionally further comprise a local key value store for generating one or more of read and write commands for the flash-based hardware accelerated key-value store and/or the disk-based hardware accelerated key-value store.

  • Patent number: 8819344
Abstract: A data processing system includes host data processors, a data storage system including data storage shared among the host data processors, and a data switch coupling the host data processors to the data storage system. The data storage system has host adapter ports coupled to the data switch. The data switch is programmed for distributing block I/O requests from the host data processors over the operable host adapter ports for load balancing of the block I/O requests among the operable host adapter ports. The shared data storage can be a file system striped across RAID sets of disk drives for load balancing upon disk director ports of the data storage system. The data processing system can be expanded by adding more data storage systems, switches for the additional data storage systems, and switches for routing block I/O requests from the host processors to the data storage systems.
