Patent number: 6840011Abstract: A window having a window panel that slides in a frame and at least one balancer that is secured to the window panel is disclosed. The window is of the tiltable hung type having a vertical operating position in which the balancer slides with the window panel in the frame and a tilted position in which the balancer remains secured to the window panel. The balancer includes an extensible member having a first end operatively coupled to the balancer and a second end operatively coupled to a frame so that the balancer can exert a force on the window panel to assist against the force of gravity when the window panel is in the vertical operating position. A method of constructing a tiltable hung window with a balancer secured to the window panel is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2000Date of Patent: January 11, 2005Assignee: Andersen CorporationInventors: Roy A. Thompson, Douglas W. Kroncke, John C. Costello, David P. Chastain, Jack D. Gundlach, Timothy J. Kelley, Larry Versteeg, Thomas Hansel, Arthur R. King, IV, James R. Harger, Michael L. Doll, James L. Patent number: 5528956Abstract: A spring acts on an operating member of a parking brake control and, when the brake is released, not only reduces the flyback energy resulting from the release but also stores such energy for use as a power assist during the next application of the brake. The spring acts on the operating member through a cam which removes the spring force from the operating member when the brake is fully released while progressively amplifying the spring force as the brake is progressively applied.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1994Date of Patent: June 25, 1996Assignee: Atwood Industries, Inc.Inventors: James R. Harger, LaVern R. McCallips

Patent number: 5448928Abstract: A variable ratio parking brake lever mechanism includes a brake lever connected with a support for pivotal movement about a lever pivot axis, a cable track member connected with the support for rotation about a cable track axis spaced from the lever pivot axis, a connecting link connected at one end with the cable track member adjacent the cable track axis, and a slot and pin arrangement connecting the other end of the connecting link with the lever to afford a mechanical advantage such that pivotal movement of lever through a given angle in the brake-applying direction produces a controllably variable rotational angle of displacement of the cable track member in the cable-tensioning direction. The connection between the connecting link and the cable track member is released when the lever is in the brake-released position, whereby the cable track member is free for rotations by a biasing spring to remove slack from the cable.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1993Date of Patent: September 12, 1995Assignee: Dura Automotive Systems, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 5388476Abstract: An in-line gearshift mechanism for use with a powershift transmission of an agricultural vehicle. The gearshift mechanism includes a shift lever assembly, a shifter plate and a switch plate each separated by a plurality of spacers and secured as an integral unit to a frame portion of an interior of the agricultural vehicle. The shifter plate includes a plurality of in-line detent positions defining forward upshift, forward, forward downshift, neutral, reverse downshift, reverse and reverse upshift detent positions at which the shift lever may be positioned. The shift lever includes a gear encoder plate on which a plurality of switch activating elements are positioned. As the shift lever is moved between the above-mentioned detent positions, the switch activating elements selectively actuate selected ones of a plurality of reed switches disposed on the switch plate.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1993Date of Patent: February 14, 1995Assignee: Agco CorporationInventors: James R.
