  • Patent number: 11165816
Abstract: Examples provide a permission service for controlling service requests to web services. A permission controller monitors the number of active requests to a selected web service. When a permission request associated with the selected web service is received from a client, the permission service compares the current number of active requests to a per-service maximum threshold number of active requests. The permission controller maintains a per-threshold number of active requests customized for each web service. If the current request would exceed the threshold number if granted, the permission controller sends a denial with a random wait time to the client. The client resends the permission request on expiration of the wait time. The permission controller generates a different random wait time for each denial response. If the number of active requests is less than or equal to the threshold, the permission service grants permission to the client.

  • Patent number: 11158560
Abstract: A thermal structure for dissipating heat from a semiconductor substrate has a semiconductor substrate having an external surface which may be roughened. An optional base layer comprising aluminium is formed on top of the external surface by a cold spraying process, and a top layer comprising a matrix of copper and diamond is formed above the substrate, and above the base layer if present, by cold spraying a powder mixture of copper and diamond particles. The top layer is thereby created as a matrix of copper formed by the deformation of the copper particles on impact with the underlying surface and a dispersed phase comprising the diamond particles embedded within the copper matrix. The resulting structure has high thermal conductivity and a coefficient of thermal expansion that is well matched to the substrate, and eliminates the need for a thermal interface material or paste.

  • Publication number: 20200150015
Abstract: A method is disclosed of determining the properties of a fluid body in the form of a surface-attached droplet/bubble. A data set is stored describing a plurality of droplets/bubbles of different shapes, in which each shape is captured as a combination of two or more linear dimensional measurements. For each shape the data set includes one or more parameters describing the relationship between the physical properties of a pair of fluids capable of forming that shape as a surface-attached droplet/bubble disposed in a surrounding fluid medium. A fluid body is provided in the form of a surface-attached droplet/bubble and a plurality of linear dimensional measurements are taken and are provided as an input to a processing apparatus. The processing apparatus determines from the data set the one or more parameters associated with the shape described by said linear dimensional measurements. In particular the surface tension of a fluid can be found in this way based on simple dimensional measurements.

  • Patent number: 10649773
Abstract: A system and method process atomic instructions. A processor system includes a load store unit (LSU), first and second registers, a memory interface, and a main memory. In response to a load link (LL) instruction, the LSU loads first data from memory into the first register and sets an LL bit (LLBIT) to indicate a sequence of atomic instructions is being executed. The LSU further loads second data from memory into the second register in response to a load (LD) instruction. The LSU places a value of the second register into the memory interface in response to a store conditional coupled (SCX) instruction. When the LLBIT is set and in response to a store (SC) instruction, the LSU places a value of the second register into the memory interface and commits the first and second register values in the memory interface into the main memory when the LLBIT is set.
