  • Publication number: 20030038429
Abstract: A waterstop ring provides a flexible joint connection between a pipe and a concrete structure. The waterstop ring includes an annular waterstop member projecting from an outer circumference thereof, and a pair of annular shoulder portions respectively disposed on each side of the waterstop member. The waterstop member and each of the shoulder portions each include hollow annular cavities defined therein, such that when the waterstop ring is installed in a connection between a concrete structure and a pipe, and partially embedded within the concrete structure, the annular cavities allow deformation of the waterstop ring and thereby allow tilting movement of the pipe in a direction away from the central axis of the pipe.

  • Publication number: 20020153668
Abstract: A sealing member for sealing a joint between a pipe and a wall defining an opening is provided. The sealing member has an annular base, a projection, and preferably first and second annular flanges. The annular base has a bottom and first and second sidewalls. The projection is attached to the base for anchoring the sealing member within the wall. In some embodiments it extends radially outwardly from the base. The first and second annular flanges extend from opposite sidewalls of the base. The first and second flanges each have a top and a bottom surface. The top surfaces of each can have an annular depressed portion, and each of the bottom surfaces can have a plurality of grooves formed therein. Preferably, the base includes at least one cavity extending completely around the circumference of the sealing member.

  • Patent number: 5876039
Abstract: A folded annular gasket is cast into an opening in the wall of a manhole and held in a compressed state by an annular support. The annular support includes a helical strip which can be stripped apart to remove the annular support from within the annular folded gasket. A pipe to be connected to the manhole is inserted into the annular support. After the pipe is inserted in the annular support, the annular support is stripped out from between the folded annular gasket and the pipe. Removal of the annular support causes the folded annular gasket to press against the pipe and thereby form a seal. Removal of the annular support can also cause the folded annular gasket to invert. The inverted part of the annular gasket can be clamped to the pipe and function as a boot or sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5732955
Abstract: An integrally molded compression ring for exerting an outwardly, radially directed force on an inner surface of a gasket to compress the gasket into sealing engagement with a wall of an opening. The compression ring is made from a one-piece body or strip of resiliently flexible material that has a substantially continuous and uninterrupted exterior circumferential surface. Lugs formed on an interior portion of the strip cooperate with a force expansion unit to move the ring into an expanded position. A recess may also be provided in one end of the strip for cooperating with the force expansion unit. Projections integrally molded on an interior portion of the strip and on an exterior portion adjacent an end of the strip engage one another to lock the ring in an expanded position. Guiding structure may be formed on the strip that prevent lateral movement of the ends of the strip relative to one another when the strip is formed into a ring.

  • Patent number: 5529312
Abstract: An annular gasket is disclosed which may be used in concrete manhole structures and pipe structures. An embodiment of the invention includes an annular body positioned to lie in a joint between two surfaces such as a wall and an outer surface of a pipe or an inner surface of one pipe and the outer surface of another pipe, structure for anchoring the body within the wall or pipe so that the body lies adjacent the wall or pipe, a sleeve having first and second folds, structure for coupling the sleeve to the body so that the sleeve is movable between a folded position adjacent the body and an unfolded position around the outer surface of the pipe, and structure for the securing the sleeve in the folded position.

  • Patent number: 5507500
Abstract: An apparatus for outwardly radially compressing a gasket into sealing engagement with a wall of an opening includes a continuous strip of resiliently flexible material having first and second ends and first and second members. The first and second members are made from a different material than the strip and are respectively attached to the first and second ends of the strip to thereby form a ring. The first and second members are configured to include locking structure that both fixes the ring in an expanded position adjacent to the gasket and secures against contraction of the ring by the gasket. The apparatus may be made from a plurality of continuous strips of resiliently flexible material and have structure for aligning and securing the first end of each one of the strips adjacent the second end of another of the strips to form a closed ring. The aligning and securing structure includes at least one set of the first and second members.

  • Patent number: 5180196
Abstract: A gasket adapter for providing a sealing surface on a ribbed conduit is disclosed. The adapter is fabricated from an elastomeric material and includes a smooth, cylindrical outer surface adapter to mate with a conventional gasket employed between an opening and a conduit, or between aligned conduits. The inner surface of the adapter comprises a series of peaks and valleys which are adapted to nest with the peaks and valleys of a conduit surface. The adapter is initially fabricated with its cylindrical surface as its inside surface so that the adapter may be installed on the ribbed conduit and then inverted to provide the smooth outer sealing surface.

  • Patent number: 4916799
Abstract: A gasket is formed with a mounting portion which is generally cylindrical, and provides an anchoring projection extending radially from the outer side thereof. A sealing projection is joined to the mounting portion by a hinge section. The sealing projection is placed in compression when the gasket is formed into a circle, and becomes bistable. In one position of stability, the sealing projection is substantially aligned with the mounting portion, and in the other position of stability, the sealing projection is located generally within the mounting portion. The gasket is positioned around a core, with the sealing projection aligned with the mounting portion, and is cast into an opening provided by the material of the manhole riser. In such position, the sealing projection is partially embedded within the material of the riser. Prior to installation of a sewer pipe, the sealing projection is manually released from the material of the riser and is pushed through to its other position of stability.

  • Patent number: 4702645
Abstract: Improvements in the technique of sliplining a buried pipe, so as to minimize adverse affects of differences in expansion and contraction of the old and new pipe, while maintaining seals at the ends thereof is disclosed employing at each pipe end a sleeve-like pliable gasket, which is expanded outwardly into contact with the inner surface of the old pipe, and somewhat beyond the end of the old pipe, is contracted inwardly into contact with the other surface of the new or sliplined pipe. The sleeve-like gasket can compensate for thermally induced pipe line and liner axial length changes, without breaking the seal between the two, while seal installation is facilitated by the accessability of the sleeve-like gaskets extending beyond the ends of the old pipe.
