  • Publication number: 20170047810
Abstract: A portable apparatus for generating electrical energy is provided comprising: an electrical energy-generating device for generating electricity in response to input mechanical action; a gravity powered drive for supplying the said mechanical action to the electricity-generating device by the descent of a suspended mass under the force of gravity; and a re-energising mechanism adapted to cause the gravity powered drive to operate whilst the mass is being raised.

  • Publication number: 20160094107
Abstract: A portable apparatus if provided for generating electrical energy. The apparatus has an electrical energy-generating device for generating electricity in response to input mechanical action, and a gravity powered drive for supplying the said mechanical action to the electricity-generating device by the descent of a suspended mass under the force of gravity. A protection system is provided to prevent a drive force, experienced by the electrical energy-generating device due to the input mechanical action, from exceeding a predetermined threshold as a result of an overload condition. The protection system may perform the dual function of physically protecting the electrical energy-generating device whilst also providing clear feedback to the user that the apparatus is subjected to an undesirable overload condition.

  • Patent number: 8941979
Abstract: A foldable keyboard including an upper housing having a plurality of keys, a lower housing having a plurality of keys, a spine member configured for pivotally connecting the upper and lower housings along a horizontal axis defined by the upper and lower housings, and a hinge mechanism provided in the spine member and configured for enabling movement of the upper housing relative to the lower housing to move the keyboard between a closed configuration and an open configuration.

  • Patent number: 8769772
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a mobile electronic device is provided with a linkage mechanism that couples first and second members of the device such that the device may be moved between a first position and a second position. The linkage mechanism includes a linkage intermediate the first and second members, the linkage having a fixed length. The linkage mechanism further includes a motion constraint mechanism that constrains movement of the first member with respect to the second member to a controlled motion. The linkage mechanism described herein may further provide that the top member rotates without increasing the length or width of the device.

  • Publication number: 20130038996
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a mobile electronic device is provided with a linkage mechanism that couples first and second members of the device such that the first and second members may be moved between a first position, a second position and a third position. The second member of the device includes a body and an input member. The input member includes an input device and is coupled to the body by a lateral displacement mechanism that allows the input member to move between an extended position and a retracted position. The linkage mechanism and the lateral displacement mechanism may thereby provide at least three operating configurations for the device. An assembly for use with an electronic device is also provided. The assembly may be attachable to, and possibly detachable from, the device.

  • Patent number: 5660805
Abstract: A process for beneficiating particulate titanium-bearing ore containing iron oxides is disclosed. The first step of the process entails prereducing the ore to convert about 20-90 percent of the iron oxides in the ore to metallic iron. Next, the prereduced ore is introduced into a mechanical reduction kiln and contacted with HCl and particulate carbonaceous reducing material. The turning and cascading of the materials in the kiln, in the presence of HCl and the reducing material, converts at least some remaining iron oxide in the ore to metallic iron and causes metallic iron to be liberated from the ore grains. Particulate metallic iron having a particle size of at least 50 microns is thereby formed. Finally, the particulate iron is separated from the ore.
