    Abstract: A composition for use in wound treatment is provided comprising (a) sodium meta-silicate, (b) sodium carbonate, (c) sodium gluconate, (d) potassium aluminium sulfate, and optionally (e) sodium chloride, which composition is especially suitable as a rinsing or soaking agent for cleaning surfaces of a wound, opening, loosening and removing biofilms from wound and other body surfaces, dissolving incrustations or scabs from body surfaces and as a dissolving agent for dressings. The composition has a beneficial and synergistic effect on the traditional treatment of wounds with antibiotics or oxidizing agents in that it makes the latter treatment more effective.

Using the methods and compositions, one treats an aqueous system with an amount effective to control the growth of at least one microorganism.
