  • Patent number: 6048295
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method in the forming of packaging containers (1) which have sealing fins in which the packaging material is sealed inside-to-inside, and also projecting, double-walled corner flaps (8). In order to form a parallelepipedic packaging container, the corner flaps are folded down and sealed to the outside of the packaging container, which subjects a sealing fin running between the corner flaps to stresses which may entail untightness in the packaging container. This is avoided in that the sealing fin, prior to the downward folding operation, is deformed in that at least a portion of the fin (4) is laterally displaced in relation to adjacent portions of the fin.

  • Patent number: 5537803
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of finishing and filling packaging containers which are manufactured from foldable packaging material and which have previously been sealed and are preferably sterilized interiorly and have been transported in a flat-laid state to, for example, a food producer. The prefabricated, compressed packaging containers are connected to a piston pump which, with the aid of an overfill operation, expands and forms the packaging container, whereafter a proportion of the contents of the packaging container is resucked out of the container so that the packaging container holds a predetermined nominal volume of contents. Hereafter, the packaging container is sealed and finally formed into the desired configuration, such as a parallelepipedic configuration. An apparatus for finishing and filling packaging containers is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4266993
Abstract: A method for the sealing of a cover strip onto packing containers, in particular non-returnable containers for liquid foodstuffs, which containers are of the type which are manufactured from laminated material comprising layers of, among others, thermoplastics, is disclosed. Packing containers of this type are generally provided with an opening arrangement in the form of a pouring opening punched out in the top side of the container, which is covered by a tear-off cover strip. The cut edge extending around the pouring opening is in this case situated inside the container which makes necessary special measures in order to prevent the occurrence of bacteria-collecting corners and pockets. This is a problem in particular in the relatively thick type of packing laminate which comprises layers of foamed thermoplastic material. It is often also necessary to seal off the free cut edge, since the laminate occasionally comprises layers which for various reasons must not come into contact with the contents.

  • Patent number: 4201609
Abstract: A method of joining two sheets of a laminated thermoplastic material in a joint wherein the edge portion of a first sheet is butted against a face of a second sheet in which an edge portion of the first sheet, which consists of a central layer of porous plastic material such as a foamed polystyrene and compact facing layers of a thermoplastic material such as polystyrene or polythene, is heated by hot air which first causes the edge portion of the central layer to soften and retract followed by softening of the edge portions of the facing layers which then turn inwardly and join together thus closing off the central layer. The edge portion is then butted against and joined to a heated-up compact thermoplastic layer of the second sheet.
