  • Patent number: 9296632
Abstract: Novel phosphonate compounds are disclosed embodying an aminophosphonate moiety and a selected reaction partner. These compounds offer beneficial alternatives, and additional possibilities, to extant phosphonates and are capable of delivering desirable benefits from an application standpoint and from a compatibility standpoint broadly.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 2007
Date of Patent: March 29, 2016
    Assignee: ITALMATCH CHEMICALS SPA
Inventors: Patrick P. B. Notte, Jan H. J. Van Bree, Albert Devaux
  • Patent number: 9108866
Abstract: A method is disclosed to inhibit scale formation in aqueous systems whereby a threshold amount of a scale inhibiting agent, represented by an aminoacid alkylphosphonic acid, is added to the aqueous system. The aminoacid moiety can be represented by ?-species or by species having, at least, two or more carbon atoms between the carboxylic moiety and the amine group. These aminoacid based inhibitors exhibit unusually superior performance and system acceptability compared to leading state-of-the-art inhibitors.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: August 18, 2015
    Assignee: ITALMATCH CHEMICALS SPA
Inventors: Patrick P. B. Notte, Albert Devaux, Jan H. J. Van Bree, Tessa Johnson
  • Publication number: 20140336408
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of alkylamino alkylene phosphonic acids is disclosed. In detail, a specific phosphonate is reacted with an agent selected to yield an alkylamino moiety substituted by a radical selected from OH, OR', NH2, NHR?, N(R?)2, NH, N, S, S—S and SH in aqueous alkaline medium having a pH of 8 or higher at a temperature of 0° C. or higher.
    Type: Application

  • Patent number: 7884248
Abstract: A beneficial method for the manufacture of amino polyalkylene phosphonic acids, under substantial absence of hydrohalogenic acid, is disclosed. The method, in essence, is based on reacting narrowly defined ratios of phosphorous acid, an amine, a formaldehyde in presence of specific ranges of an acid catalyst having a pKa equal or inferior to 3.1. The inventive method is capable of yielding economically and quality operational/capacity advantages, in particular significantly reduced one-step cycle duration under exclusion, of corrosion disadvantages and also is environmentally friendly without requiring, in that respect, anything more than nominal capital expenditures.

  • Publication number: 20100063316
Abstract: Novel reactive phosphonate compounds are disclosed corresponding to the structural formula set forth. The reactive moiety is preferably selected from the group of Cl, I, Br, HSO4, NO3, mixtures of Cl and I, CH3SO3 and p-toluene sulfonic acid whereas the hydrocarbon linking group between the nitrogen and the reactive moiety is most preferably a linear hydrocarbon chain having fro 3 to 12 carbon atoms. The novel phosphonates herein can be used in multiple established applications, such as detergency, water treatment, oil recovery, pharmaceutical intermediate and pharmaceutical products. The novel compounds are particularly useful for the “tailor” synthesis of optimized structural arrangements capable of meeting beneficial performance requirements.

Abstract: A beneficial method for the manufacture of amino polyalkylene phosphonic acids, under substantial absence of hydrohalogenic acid, is disclosed. The method, in essence, is based on reacting narrowly defined ratios of phosphorous acid, an amine and a formaldehyde in presence of a heterogeneous Broensted acid catalyst. The inventive method is capable of yielding economically and quality operational/capacity advantages, in particular significantly reduced one-step cycle duration under exclusion of corrosion disadvantages and also is environmentally friendly without requiring, in that respect, anything more than nominal capital expenditures.
