  • Patent number: 4990434
Abstract: The present invention provides a photographic element comprising a dimensionally stable hydrophobic transparent polyester film support, at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, and at the side of said support opposite to that of said emulsion layer(s), a subbing layer essentially consisting of poly-N-vinyl pyrrolidone, and an antihalation layer comprising carbon black dispersed in a water-insoluble alkali-soluble copolymer of 1 to 65% by weight of a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl methacrylate, 10 to 79% by weight of a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl acrylate, and 10 to 50% by weight of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 5, 1991
    Assignee: Agfa-Gevaert, N.V.
Inventors: Etienne A. Van Thillo, Jan J. Priem
  • Patent number: 4861818
Abstract: Method for the preparation of stable aqueous dispersions of finely divided solid spherical polymer beads having an average particle size between about 0.5 and about 5 .mu.m and having a glass transition temperature of at least 40.degree. C. by dissolving in an aqueous solvent mixture at least one .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated monomer capable of forming a polymer that is soluble in the monomer(s) present in said aqueous solvent mixture but which is insoluble in said aqueous solvent mixture, a free radical-forming polymerization initiator, and a graft-polymerizable polymer containing hydrophilic groups, heating the solution to a temperature from 50.degree. C. to the reflux temperature thereof with stirring so as to form said polymer beads. The polymer beads can be used in an antifriction surface layer, an antihalation surface layer, an antistatic surface layer, or in a protective surface layer of a photographic element or in a top layer of a drafting film containing a photosensitive layer.

  • Patent number: 4241159
Abstract: An electrostatic liquid developer for the development of electrostatic charge patterns comprises an electrically insulating carrier liquid having a dielectric constant of less than 3 and a volume resistivity in excess of 10.sup.9 Ohm.cm. In this electrically insulating carrier liquid are dispersed resin-precoated toner particles formed of a pigment or coloring agent precoated with a polymer of an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester of hydrogenated abietyl alcohol.

  • Patent number: 4132552
Abstract: A process is described for the manufacture of a dimensionally stable polyester film support carrying a primer coating for improving the adhesion thereto of subsequently applied coatings, which process comprises applying to an unstretched or only monoaxially stretched polyester film support a layer of a coating composition from an aqueous dispersion, drying said layer, stretching it biaxially or in a direction perpendicular to the said first stretching operation together with the polyester film support and heat-setting the polyester film, wherein said coating composition, before drying and heat-setting, comprises a mixture of:(A) 52 to 79% by weight of a copolymeric binder comprising 60 to 95% by weight of methyl methacrylate, 3 to 20% by weight of a divinyl or diallyl monomer, 0 to 30% by weight of a plasticizing vinyl monomer, and 0 to 5% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid,(B) 0.
