  • Patent number: 4454285
Abstract: A modified reinforced non-porous cement composition and composite and the process of preparing same whereby the composites are reinforced using synthetic mineral fibers, such as glass and E-glass fibers. The cement includes a resin dispersion of a polymer, containing acid groups, with a mean particle size ranging from 0.05 and 5.0 microns and the resin dispersion protects the reinforcing fibers from alkaline attack. The water to cement ratio ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 and the weight ratio of the resin to the cement ranges from 0.02 to 0.4. Preferably, the resin dispersion is a thermoplastic resin prepared from monomers containing vinyl groups and the acid groups are preferably carboxyl groups.

  • Patent number: 4373981
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of objects from water-hardened materials, reinforced with one or more reticulate webs, one over the other, which webs have been obtained by stretching, fibrillating and spreading of a film of organic polymeric material, by continuously supplying one or more reticulate webs, contacting them with a water-hardening material and water, thus forming a composite material, and shaping and hardening this material. This is obtained according the invention in that:a. one or more reticulate webs, one on top of the other, are continuously supplied and laid on a carrier;b. the reticulate webs are folded zig-zag on this carrier;c. the folded network is continuously transported in a direction virtually normal to the direction in which the reticulate webs are supplied;d. subsequently, the folded network is contacted, directly or indirectly, with a water-hardening material and water.

  • Patent number: 4344910
Abstract: An improved process for the manufacture of reinforced shaped articles from water-hardening materials. A plurality of continuous networks of synthetic organic polymer material having at least two meshes per square centimeter are incorporated in said water-hardening materials as reinforcement. The networks are prepared by forming meshes in an unfibrillated film of the synthetic organic polymer material.

  • Patent number: 4344804
Abstract: The present invention relates to a continuous process for manufacturing articles comprised of fiber-reinforced hydraulically bound material. A layer of the fiber-reinforcing and hydraulically bindable materials are placed on a first endless carrier while a second similar layer is formed on a second endless carrier. The layer formed on the second carrier is deposited on the layer formed on the first carrier by reversing the second carrier and the composite layer formed as a result is thereafter given the desired shape and is hardened.A number of fibrous network structures are used with the hydraulically bindable material and the two are formed into a layer with the networks distributed in it. Water is removed from that layer by suction, while on the second carrier a number of fibrous networks are likewise supplied to be formed into a layer comprised of the hydraulically bindable material with the networks distributed in it and water is also removed by suction from this layer.

  • Patent number: 4267136
Abstract: A continuous process for manufacturing composite articles, such as thin hydraulically bound boards, which are reinforced with separate layers of a stretched, fibrillated, extended plastics net reinforcing material is disclosed. An aqueous suspension of cement or other material is applied onto and into the plastics network, dewatered, taken up and rolled into a composite cylinder until the desired thickness is reached. The cylinder is then cut axially, given the desired shape and cured.

  • Patent number: 4242407
Abstract: An improved process for the manufacture of shaped articles from water-hardening materials reinforced with multiple layers of a fibrillated organic film. A plurality of networks are formed from fibrillated organic films and are simultaneously advanced into contact with a water-hardening material to form a composite layer of the networks impregnated with the water-hardening material. This layer is thereafter formed into the desired configuration for the shaped article, and allowed to set. The average number of meshes within the networks with a minimum of two per square centimeter and the number of networks within the layer are such that the average number of meshes per cubic centimeter of the final shaped article is at least 100.

  • Patent number: 4190455
Abstract: A method for the controlled manufacture of shaped products by compressing a mixture of calcium sulphate dihydrate, hydraulic cement, water and particulate silicious inorganic materials such as sand or porous inorganic materials. The manufacture is controlled to obtain a shaped product having a predetermined crushing strength in accordance with a described relationship between such predetermined crushing strength, the amount of silicious inorganic particulate material present in the mixture and the pressure exerted on the mixture during the formation of the shaped products.
