  • Patent number: 6923111
Abstract: An enclosed mobile container having a refrigeration unit for providing conditioned air to a mixing chamber located at the front of the container. Air penetratable cartons containing perishable produce are stacked in rows along the length of the container to create a pair of supply air plenums running along each side wall of the container and a return air aisle running along the center of the container. A gas generator is mounted in the mixing chamber to add a ripening agent to the conditioned air. Fans force the supply air from the mixing chamber into the plenums under pressure so that the supply air is passed through the cartons into heat transfer relationship with the produce and the air is returned to the mixing chamber via the center aisle. A fresh air exchanger is mounted in the container for venting the ripening agent to ambient after the completion of a ripening cycle.

  • Patent number: 6457402
Abstract: Apparatus for aiding in the ripening of produce that includes a sealed container having a refrigeration unit for supplying conditioned air for cooling produce stored in a container. A gas generator is arranged to mix a ripening gas with conditioned air within the container. A fresh air exchanger is integrated into the refrigeration unit for venting conditioned air from the container to ambient and exchanging the vented air with outside fresh air. The fresh air exchanger is automatically operated by a controller which coordinates the cycling of the gas generator with the exchange of fresh air so that the ripening process can be closely regulated.

  • Patent number: 5065587
Abstract: A compartmentalized transport refrigeration system having refrigeration control, and interconnected host and remote refrigeration units for respectively conditioning the air in front and rear compartments of a trailer. The trailer has front and rear doors for access to the front and rear compartments, respectively, and a door switch connected to the refrigeration control which modifies the operation of the refrigeration system when the front access door is opened. When the front access door is opened, the host refrigeration unit is operated in null and the remote refrigeration unit is cycled between heating and cooling modes. A door switch may also be provided for the second access door which modifies the operation of the transport refrigeration system by effectively turning the remote refrigeration unit off.
