  • Patent number: 6549790
Abstract: The portable telecommunications apparatus has an audio input for receiving sound, an audio output for generating sound, a controller for controlling the audio input and the audio output, and an audio accessory interface for operatively connecting an external audio accessory. The accessory is capable of receiving external sound and forwarding it as audio signals to the apparatus and/or capable of generating external sound in response to audio signals supplied from the apparatus. The controller is arranged to receive a request for an audio service from any of at least two audio accessories operatively connected to the apparatus. The controller also has a logical state machine, the individual states of which represent possible operational conditions for the telecommunication apparatus and the audio accessories. The state machine defines how the request for audio service is to be handled each of the operational conditions.

  • Patent number: 6212402
Abstract: A system connector is provided to allow for the communication of digital signals between two devices functioning at different operating voltages. The connector allows for the interfacing of the high and low signal logic levels through the use of each devices own operating voltage without the need for complex signal conversion of voltage levels. The connector may be used to allow communication between mobile phones and their accessories. The system connector may be incorporated into an accessory or portable device allowing the signal level interfacing between the portable device and accessory. The system connector supplies a high-level or low-level digital signal to a first device operating at a first voltage in response to a corresponding high-level or low-level digital signal from a second device operating at a second voltage.

  • Patent number: 6201975
Abstract: A method of creating a user menu (AM1) in a display (2, 22) in a user unit (1, 21, 41). The user menu (AM1) denotes an accessory unit (5, 25a) connected to the user unit (1, 21, 41). Information (I1, I2) is stored in a menu storage unit (3, 23) in the user unit (1, 21). The information (I1, I2) is used to create a standard menu (SM1). The accessory unit (5, 25a) is connected to the user unit (1, 21), and a menu selection code (MCODE) is sent from the accessory unit (5, 25a) to the menu storage unit (3, 23) in the user unit (1, 21). A standard menu (SM1), which corresponds to the menu selection code (MCODE), is pointed out in the menu storage unit (3, 23). The pointed out standard menu (SM1) is adapted to a user menu (AM1) corresponding to the menu selection code (MCODE), and the user menu (AM1) is activated in the display (2, 22).
