  • Patent number: 7865197
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards a method and a device for preparing a message in a portable electronic device such as a cellular phone. The device comprises a message type selection unit (14) providing a set of items of message types (20, 22, 24, 26, 28) that can be selected by a user, a first user input unit (32), for allowing message type selection by the user, and a control unit (40) arranged to: provide the set of items of message types (20, 22, 24, 26) that can be selected by a user, detect a message selection by a user via said user input unit (32), change transmission format in dependence of the selections made by the user. In this way for instance a message can be prepared and saved in advance of deciding final message type for transmission.

  • Patent number: 7697675
Abstract: A portable communication device engages in voice communication with a plurality of parties by establishing connections between the portable communication device and at least two other parties, positioning the other connected parties at different positions in space in relation to the portable communication device, and providing information in relation to the position of one of the other connected parties when this connected party provides audio information over the connection so that the user of the device can identify which party is active.

  • Patent number: 7054440
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for assigning the values or functions to be represented by the keys of a keypad in a mobile communication device, the keys are capable of representing different values or functions based on the occurrence of a predetermined event. A detector is used to detect the occurrence of the event. Depending on whether the event is detected, the keys are assigned to represent a different set of values or functions.

  • Publication number: 20020078185
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a start site (5) for configuring a mobile telephone (1) for access to digital communication services. The invention also relates to a mobile telephone which on delivery from the shelf is pre-configured with a telephone number that goes to the start site. The start site comprises a server (8) and a data base (9). When the start site receives a call from a subscriber it requests the subscriber, by presenting text pages in the mobile's display, to select network operator and e-mail provider. Configuration data relating to access of the selected operator's digital services, and to the selected e-mail provider's services, including personalized information, are fetched from the data base and are placed in a configuration message which is transmitted to the mobile telephone. Upon receipt of the configuration message the mobile performs an automatic configuration process. Wap enabled telephones and SMS or OTA configuration messages may be used.

  • Patent number: 6385585
Abstract: A digital input symbol is transmitted to a receiver by determining one or more formant frequencies that correspond to the digital input symbol. In one embodiment, a pre-programmed addressable memory is used to map the set of possible digital input symbols onto a set of corresponding speech units, each comprising a superposition of one or more formant frequencies. A signal is then generated having the speech units. The signal is supplied for transmission over a voice channel. This may include supplying the signal to a voice coder prior to transmission. In another aspect of the invention, a forward error correction code (FEC) is determined for the digital input symbol, and the one or more speech units are modified as a function of the forward error correction code. In this way, the FEC may also be transmitted with the encoded input symbol. The modification may affect any of a number of attributes of the speech units, including a volume attribute and a pitch attribute.

  • Patent number: 5680440
Abstract: A mobile radio network includes a number of mobile radio systems, each having a mobile radio services switching center which conveys calls between a number of cordless subscribers and a public switched telephone network which is common to the mobile radio systems which convey calls between a number of cordless subscribers, and a public switched telephone network which is common to the mobile radio systems which convey calls between wire-connected subscribers and also to the cordless subscribers via the mobile radio switching centers. If a cordless subscriber has roamed from its home system to a visitor system, a call from a third system can be transferred generally over the home system and the public network to the subscriber.
