  • Patent number: 5217874
Abstract: A test sheet for the determination of the presence of a substance having peroxidase-like activity in a throw-in-the-bowl fecal occult blood test, includes a specimen test area and a positive control area. The test area has deposited thereon a test ink having at least one oxygen donor reagent and a chromogen reagent capable of being oxidized by the oxygen donor in the presence of blood or a substance having peroxidase-like activity, to provide a visually observable change of color. The test ink also includes a water soluble polymer for immobilizing the chromogen and oxygen donor. The positive control area has deposited thereon the test ink and a substance having the peroxidase-like activity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 1991
Date of Patent: June 8, 1993
    Assignee: Helena Laboratories Corporation
Inventors: Philip A. Guadagno, Janine P. Burrows

  • Patent number: 5192501
Abstract: A method of formulating a test ink for a fecal occult blood test product including the steps of: (a) providing at least one chromogen reagent in a first solution; (b) providing a moisture barrier which is a water-soluble polymer; (c) adding at least one oxygen donor reagent to the moisture barrier; (d) adding at least one color enhancer to the result of step (c) to thereby form a second solution; and (e) adding the second solution to the first solution.

  • Patent number: 4440724
Abstract: A composition, test means, method of making test means and process for the detection of ketone bodies in human fluids. The composition includes a chromogen and, discrete therefrom, a combination of a metal salt, a primary amine and a chelator for the metal. The composition may be in tablet form or in separately sequentially impregnated layers on a carrier. If the composition is in tablet form, the composition is a dry combination of the chromogen, the metal salt, primary amine acid and the chelator. If the test means is formed on a carrier as separately impregnated layers, the chromogen is impregnated onto the carrier, the impregnated carrier is then dried, and then the combination of the primary amine, metal salt and chelator in liquid form are impregnated over the dry chromogen and thereafter the impregnated carrier is dried.
